You do realise i hope that brothers in arms is an early digital recording. It's only cd res anyway so pointless having it in sacd.

Surely you ar not suggesting that this is just another cynical tactic of the music industry to sell you, yet again, music you already own, nah, can't be true....!

Personally I think that one copy of BIA is already one copy too many, but there you go.

I agree! I only have one song of BIA, but i almost never play it. I'll better delete it soon!

I can remeber that in those days it was used to demo in hifi-shops, like it was almost meant to do so. But i think the music is awful. (old) DS has much beter songs! And they sound very well too, and much more honest. BIA sounds kind of artificial to me.

Far too commercial (as albums go) - obviously brilliant for sales.

The first album - far superior - The original vinyl was superb. (inmho)

tonky by naim tonky by nature

PS Sultans of Swing on Radio 2 as I type (128kbps) - I know - but it still sounds class!

Impossible to quantify taste, I can't stand Dire Straits but have been listening to a lot of Jesus and Mary Chain recently, go figure.

I know a good, and slightly scurrilous, story about the band in their early days but Chebby and Spiny forbid me from 'namedropping', so I'll not repeat it.

You've started now - so name drop away! Dire Straits - first album apart - I'm not fussed either.

JAMC - -I'll give them a listen this week - not heard them before - any recommendations?

JAMC ? 'Honey's Dead' or 'Psychocandy' albums

Dire Straits ? I like some songs from Communiqué too, and 'Private investigation' is a real gem to me!

I enjoy Mark Knopfler's solo albums a lot but own nothing by Dire Straits. I had quite a few LPs of theirs but I sold them all off earlier this year and I wont be replacing them with CDs anytime soon.

Psycocandy, play it LOUD.

It's really the first album from the post Joy Division noiseboys, made when Cobain was still pooping in pampas. Pivotal and great fun too.

For contrast, check out the 2014 'revival', Live at Barrowlands', missing the edge of the original but somehow more mature, see what you think.

On a similar theme, try New Order, live at Bestival 2012. A decent show, even without Hooky, with a truly epic performance of True Faith, perfection.
