What i would like to know is which of these machines produces a better image on normal sd dvds. I have a huge dvd collection which i do not want to replace with bluray as some cant be found on blu ray and secondly it will cost too much. So which of these players will make my normal dvds look best?

Yeah i would like to know the answer to this aswell has i've been looking at a new player whether it be bluray or not, i would like to get the best out of my dvds. Currently can,t decide between the the Oppo's or the Toshiba, anything thats alot better than the ps3 would be most welcomed, as longs as its reasonible i mean around £400.

Ginder:Can no one really help?

I will put my point in here. I have the Sony BDPS550 which lost out to the Pana mentioned. I had the Denon 1940 before and my Sony is at least as good, probably better at upscaling dvds. The Denon is a better machine than the Toshiba, so I would say that the Pana 55 would comfortably beat the Tosh.

Excellent for a £100 dvd player. I'm sure if it went up against the £250 dvd players of last year (Denon 1940 and Cambridge Audio and Marantz) it would take a beating.

Oh ok, when it said execellent i imagined it to be in all categories not just the £100 band. Anyway how does it fare up against the £250 denon, cambridge and marantz? Does the BD55 beat those three in terms of dvd upscaling and most importantly does it beat the highly accomplished Pioneer DV-LX50?

I can only go by the Denon 1940 and the lesser BD player, the Sony S550. My new BD player is a little more accurate than the Denon (which was excellent).
