Alien Romulus on 4k -a crimbo present. Pretty disappointing really. First half an hour is pretty good, but it's also referential to the point of being reverential, and not subtly but almost continuously. This starts to grate, and as there are no new ideas here (bar the gravity thing), and as it seems to want to cram in things from all of the first four films, I'm not sure it'll get a second viewing in a hurry.

Here is a problem I would like you to solve for me. I want to find a film I watched which I think was made around 2012. As I recall it stars an A lister and one who has his head shaved normally or cut short. In this film he has longish hair and it is quite a surprise. It is because he is being portrayed as a bit of a drunken layabout. The film opens in a bar and he is drunk. He gets abusive to some of the others in the bar and a woman in particular I think. It turns out much much later that he was pretending to be drunk. He is doing this to protect his family as something like the mafia or Triads or cops or FBI know he has information that can harm them. He is no risk to them while he is a mess. This all turns around at about halfway through the movie when it then comes to light that he is very rational and not drunk. I cannot recall how it ends but I think two of the factions eventually get dealt with.
Needless to say I have scoured movies from all the usual suspects like Bruce Willis, Dwayne Johnson, V. Damme etc. etc.
Please help me - I have waited years to suss this movie.

Binged watched Squid Games season 2 on Netflix, so brutal. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the final episodes.

After the end of the final episode it does say coming in 2025 so that narrows it down a little!

They are calling them three seasons, although this season is very short. They Slit the second season of Arcane into three parts with about a month between each, that was really annoying!

The film that immediately springs to mind is Hummingbird, known as Redemption in some territories. Written and directed by Stephen Knight (Peaky Binders).

There is enough about the plot that is different to what you describe to suggest it isn't the one you are talking about. However, we sometimes misremember, or conflate two or more stories. There are lots of things that do match, the police, the mob, the fights. Most significantly it is from 2013, and it stars Jason Statham who starts the film down and out with straggly long hair.

Even if not the one, its worth a look as its a good movie.

I thought of Jason Statham in that film he had straggly long hair, I couldn't recall the title but I thought if I go and check all films released in 2012, I'm sure to find it.

So I thought, 20 minutes and I'm still going down the list, I sort of lost the will to live :)
It seems you sussed it out, well done!

Thanks. I own almost all of the Statham films. Hummingbird is one that has been suggested but me and the other half are definite in that it is not the one. I think the key is the opening scene and the storyline twist midway.

Well, I don’t want to turn this thread into a help desk for films I can’t remember the title of, but I have one as well that I have been trying to track down for years.

I’m guessing it was made in the last 30 years or so, set in WW2 with a platoon of GIs working their way through a snow bound European forest toward the end of the war. They come across a German unit and there is possibly a stand off. Anyway after a time the two sides start a degree of fraternisation until someone accidentally lets of a gun and everything breaks down in a major gunfight. Can’t remember the actors, but I’ve a vague idea that someone who is now famous was in it.

I’ve spent yonks on the IMDB trying to track it down and would love to see it again. My eternal appreciation to the person who can identify it! 😁 Thanks!

I vaguely remember a film like that (but not the name of it) that had, I think, Telly Savalas in it. It is so frustrating. You would think sites like "find that film" etc. would be able to help but they just come up with the usual suspects - pardon the link.

I think it might be "A Midnight Clear".

I once spent ages looking for a film I saw as a kid. All I could remember was a Plane, trees and a chase by bad guys. About 5 years ago, I stumbled on it by accident. It was called "Run For the Sun". An OK film but not a classic. It just happened to stick in my childhood mind.
