Main thing I think is that it looks fairly consistent — it wasn't wobbling around or anything — I am totally sure I will not notice.

Randomly found a little bubble!

The bubble is exactly off as much as the plinth is — so will check that out!

Mmm :? One is assuming you have set the 'TT/stand/shelf' spot on level? Otherwise the bubble will show that  . . . not to mention any warp in the record, be carfull which one you choose, what thickness is the vinyle? Sorry I'm sceptical of such items, its a starting point. However, when you get to this point, its your ears that will tell you what is right . . . but you have to have a point of comparison for all the adjustments you make, the final comparison is 'what you hear', trust your ears.

Glad to see you back CJ, I've found your advice very good in the past.

And I wasn't a beleiver in faffing about but am now ;)

Thanks Andy, I just get so frustrated, as you say 'faffing about' is worth the effort eventual, I find it very satisfying too. 'That will do' when one has spent a lot of money just wont do in my book . . . .

The most important thing about 'faffing' is that you set standards to which you can return, you know exactly where you are, changes and tweakes become meaningfull, which ever side of the 'good or bad' fence they fall. ;) enjoy your music.

I'm watching this particular thread with real interest, as the 10x5 is likely to replace my Rega Exact at some point in the near future. As I mentioned in Steve's thread also on the 10x5, I'm keen to know how the 10x5 compares to the Exact, but I'm also interested to know how it compares to the 2M Red that James was running. I also own a 2M Blue and from time to time I swap the Exact out and put the Blue on (usually after I enconter a record that sounds fairly wretched with the Exact, such as the Pet Shop Boys' "Electric", which sounds very dull indeed with the Exact). What I find is that some records suit the Blue better (particularly recent/new pressings where the tonal balance is slightly on the warm side), while other records sound better with the Exact. To my ears, the Blue provides a presentation and tonal balance which is much closer to CD - whether that's a good bad thing is debatable :) I've ended up driving myself slighty doolally over which of my current two cartridges I should use and stick with! Ultimately, though, I think that neither is _exactly_ what I'm after, and I'm hoping that the 10x5 combine the best quialities of the Blue and Exact.

Comments and feedback appreciated!

Cheers

I quite agree with you.

Regarding levelling tho I know someone with an engineers level, scared to death to try it.

They are used for M/C bed levelling compared it with my 'good' spirit level at work when levelling a tool changer for a Robot,

my level said spot on, the engs level said something totally different, very very accurate. Would be interesting but its quite heavy

bit of kit tho

Bogester,

I still think the Exact is a nice cart, but I found it a little bloated on the bass.

Switching over to the 10x5 soon sorted that out, it is like a night and day difference. The 10x5 is more open, lots of air around vocals & instruments I am so glad I tried one!

I have heard the 2M Blue and it really wasnt for me, sounded very bright!

I dont think you will go wrong with the 10x5 and it sounds like the cart you need!

The Dynavector is night and day to the 2M Red — whole new level.

I haven't heard the Exact but if the Blue is a mildly more refined Red then I know what you mean about the 2M Red and it's ability to bring out the music — I was worried about losing that too. Luckily I haven't in any way — spades more detail on top of the "boogie factor"

Thanks, all, for your opinions of the 10x5. Steve, I agree that lack of bass control and tightness is one of the Exact's weaknesses. It sounds like the 10x5 is just for me! I have to wait a while before I get my mitts on one, though, as funds are tight this month. But I'll let you know what I think of it when the time comes.

All the best

Thanks for the info. I wonder if they'll deliver to San Francisco, which is where I'm currently living? (I'm a British expat.)
