SVS SB2000 Pro vs PB2000 Pro vs PC2000

My living room is 16' X 12'4" and have a 7.1.4 system (Monitor Audio Trimless WT-280 IDC fronts and centre, WT265 side and rear surrounds and CT265 X 4 ceiling speakers), KK DXD-808 subwoofer and powered by Denon X6400H. I also have a DSPeaker Anti-Mode. It's a 10-year old system and I'm planning to gradually upgrade it.

My first target is to replace my subwoofer. I am extremely limited to subwoofer placement (only 1 place - behind my sofa in the bay window). I appreciate I won't get the best performance due to this, but it is what it is (the cables have been buried under the oak floor).

What would be ideal subwoofer for this place? SB2000 or PB2000 or PC2000? The Projector screen is on the top wall opposite the bay window. Flooring is oak. Any advice please? Thanks.

If you mainly listen to music, then go for the sealed unit, if home cinema is your main use, then go for the ported version, if you like to hide things away in the corner with something that doesn't look a big square box, go with the tower.

Whichever sub you get, it's better to have some headroom i.e. a more powerful sub running at a portion of its ability, rather than a smaller less powerful sub being run at or close to its limits. Depends on what you listen to and how loud, and whether you want to feel the bass or just have it add a bit to the low end.

Hi BB,
Are you wanting more grunt than the KK.
Specifications:
All versions of the DXD-808
Driver Configuration
DUAL PUSH-PULL 8” HIGH VELOCITY DEEP BASS DRIVERS
Typical in Room Frequency Response
15 Hz - 200 Hz
Variable Phase Adjustment
0 to 180 degrees
Variable Low Pass Filter
Range: 40Hz - 160Hz at 12db per Octave
The SVS PB 2000 Pro
  • Driver12"
  • Amplifier Rating550 watts RMS (1500+ watts peak)
  • Freq. Response16Hz to 290Hz +/-3dB (standard mode)
  • Freq. Response17Hz to 290Hz +/-3dB (sealed mode)
The SVS does go lower.
Are you missing something or just want a change.

this, get one bigger than you think you may need, though this depends on what you're willing to live with.

As for placement if the old one sounded good there then the new one will.

It's a long story. Basically, I find myself adjusting the settings every now and then. Want something more user friendly.

I asked this question to SVS (they're amazing in responding promptly, by the way). This is their response:

Thank you for your email and great details, it helps!

Based on your space, home theater application, and placement I would recommend either the PB-2000 Pro or PC-2000 Pro subwoofer.

Which one you go with really depends on two variables:

Flooring - is the room on a concrete slap or is it a second floor, if on a slab the PC model would work great and the PB, second floor go with the PB model

Aesthetics - which one do you like the look of more, also a big black tube in a bay window probably not the best look

The difference in output from the two models in your placement will be that the PC would be more room filling - using the corner/bay window to help while the PB would be more punchy in the seat directly in front, you also would play with angles to see what works best.

Your solution needs a ported subwoofer, just like your prior model was a ported subwoofer. If you want to explore a sealed box subwoofer then you would need to look at the SB16 or SB17 for your room/application/placement.

PB-2000 Pro. Ported subs are no longer as 'bad' for music as they used to be. My PB-3000 feels just about as tight as my SB-3000 was, but with the added benefit of much more low end wallop. You can of course run the PB-2000 Pro in sealed mode should you wish by using the foam bungs. In this setup it would run a little louder than the SB-2000 Pro on account of the larger cabinet volume as well.

Thanks, I'll probably end up getting that. The main issue is that the depth is more than the depth of the bay window, so I'll need to place it sideways. Not sure if that will have an impact on performance.

Not the same as a bay window so yours should be better placed than mine.
Had to do some tweaking and like you i have a mini DSP.
It is a sealed Monitor Audio SW12 and for my room size does really well and had thought bout changing to a SVS. I have a wood suspended floor so i put it on some Townshend Audio Seismic Isolation bars.
