Hi there all, here are a few pics of my set up which gives me loads of enjoyment.

EDIT - updated source url of images to improve quality.

No don't know why they have come out like that? Is it to do with the width=400 thing? As on photo bucket they look fine. Also I fallowed the image posting instructions to the tee how was it that it didn't work when i posted it?

I use Photobucket for my pics. If you click on one of your thumbnails and then click where it says IMG Code, it should copy what you need to paste into a post.

Hi sheep_boy,

I am very much liking your set-up especially the Quads, superb

What was your approach to building your set-up? It looks to me like a hi-fi system which has evolved to integrate a Home Cinema set-up. Interested to hear your thoughts.

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

Happy listening (and watching)

Yes Messiah. Looks like you used a different path to the images whereas I simply used the one provided.

Hi there Nick

Thanks for the comments on the look, its a big change from what it used to be like. My main focus is on the HI-FI side of things and I have a no compromise approach to that, saying that I sold my CD player to get Sonos as my main digital source.

I got a really good deal on the pre and power amps second hand a few years ago and they are the only second hand units I have at the moment. I've been through lots of different set ups over the last 10 years or so, starting with some Eltax speakers with a Sony amp and CD player, then they went replaced by a Cambridge Audio 540a and a NAD CD player (can't remember which one!) with TDL KV1's from Richer Sounds and to me that sounded ace and was well worth the 6 months I spent saving up for it, the KV1's where soon gone and upgraded to some Monitor Audio B2's.

This wasn't the end though after two years the 540 went and in came valves in the form of two hand built 15W mono blocks running from a Musical Fidelity X-pre, the front end of this was the best CD player I've ever owned and regret selling to this day! This comprised of a transport and DAC in the shape of a Teac VRDS-T1 and an original Cambridge Audio DAC Magic, then the TT came and for about 4 years I was happy with what I had.

However the hobby of HI-FI being as it is this was all about to change, I wanted a good DVD player so I could start a HC system and managed to get a Denon DVD2900 from ebay for £160 and replaced the transport and DAC with it, I know madness but I did sound good for a DVD player and I wanted to cut down on the big box count. So with that box cull out went the valves replaced by the Cyrus pre and power, then i though I best get a real CD player and picked up a second hand Micromega Stage one amazing player if you ever find one at a good price.

The HC is some thing I like having but will compromise on that side of things and won't upgrade as often, the other reason is I only have space for one set of speakers so the AV amp is pre-outed stright into the power, so no messing around with added attenuation through the Cyrus pre. The kit in my sig was bought in December replacing a Denon AVR-1906 and the for mentioned DVD player.

Hope this gives you some insight into my views.

sheep_boy,

Brilliant, many thanks for the detailed response

. I will certainly be adding the Quad's to my potential upgrade list

Enjoy the great set-up,

The Quads are amazing however I think they've been replaced now, but you can get great deals on them second hand. What system would you be putting them with, as there very warm and seem to work better with bright components a friend of mine has the 11L's with an Arcam amp and I've tried mine with some NAD kit and found the sound to layed back.

Hmmm, I guess I have'nt given it serious thought (apart from the usual daydreaming!). I would like to try a Cyrus just to see what all the fuss/rave reviews are about. I have to be honest and admit I do sort of find the look of the darn little boxes somewhat er..not to my liking
emotion-10.gif
, but totally believe they output a brilliant sound with the right kit (you don't consistantly scoop all those Product of the Year awards for nothing!). The Quads dont appear to be difficult to drive so perhaps something like a Yamaha AS-500 or perhaps with a little arm (and credit card
emotion-5.gif
) twisting the Naim Nait 5i?? Would the Yamaha get the best out of the Quads?

How do you find the Quads for positioning? Fussy (reviews suggest not)? Need lots of space?

Nick

Having herd the Yamaha all be it not on my speakers, I would say you wont get the best out of the 11L2's if thats what you went for. Plus I hate the styling of the AS-500 it sounds good though, but in my view won't do Quads justice. If your looking at the plus £400 mark for a amp try Roksan, Rega or maybe try and get a Quad amp second hand. Don't know how they would sound with Naim as there amps sound better with more detailed speakers like B&W or Neat. Quads do sound good with Cyrus but Dynaudio sound amazing I just couldn't afford them at the time. If you like warm speakers and want a bargain I highly recommend Dali's, there Lektor 2's sound amazing for a speaker costing £280.

Positioning has never been a problem for me I have them about a foot away from the rear wall and not in loads of space, I would have a mess around with the toe in angle took me a wile to get that right so the sound stage is as it should be.
