I've just watched that vid again. Notice the sub platter is slightly doing the big dipper. Lob the platter on and the rest is history.

Just took a very close look at my RP6 — the platter is straight as anything — no wobble what so ever.

I'll get the DTI out at some point.

Best go for the .01 jobbie . That will do your nut

I'd be quite interested in the tolerances etc — I've built engines, done my fair share of machining etc — I'd hope a turntable to be fairly precise considering the size of the information it's reading

Yup you woulld like to think so. Of course the spindle hole only has to be a fraction on the squint as you know.

Steve it could be too much oil or just bedding in of new sub-platter.

Remove sub and bearing and clean out all oil.

One drop of oil before replacing bearing then one or two after then replace sub-platter

Run and see if it improves.

I had side to side movement almost disappeared with motor alignment and gone with metal sub.

Hope this helps

Andy

Ps Shouldn't effect sq if only small movement.

Just a thought Steve. Is that O ring on the sub platter seated down properly , it wouldnt take much to throw things out of kilter.

Pro-jects platter runs absolutely true.

Sorry, that's a bit harsh.

Why is it nearly all Rega owners feel the need to upgrade or tweak?

Because of this forum Humph

PP my TT history

1 mono all in one

1 stereo all in one

Dual 505_2 deluxe

Project Debut

Rega P3-24

Now modded

Maybe its middle age and more disposable income

Also being tight and not wanting to pay out £1500 + all at once

I'm just surprised that Rega can't supply a decent belt in the first place

If only it was that simple

It's quite a legit question: Yourself, Steve, CJ, and a couple of others who are Rega owners seem to like to use the upgrade path Rega offer.

I've had my Pro-ject for around 6 years and only upgraded the cart. There's no platter wobble, no distortion, woe and flutter... In fact I've only checked the arm weight twice in these past six years.

I don't subscribe to "because of the forum..." line. My philosophy if it's good enough straight from the box then its a good TT. If it needs the upgrade path something is amiss IMO. Probably this is why I don't gravitate to Rega that much.

My Rega was modded because I had money spare to improve /replace tt . I looked at buying a new better one but was intrigued by

the inspire upgrade and went that way. Very happy with it but I'm sure in the future if I can prove to myself its better

a better TT will be bought along with amp and speakers. But this forum and others do have a place of blame, if I hadn't read

about other peoples voyages would I have gone that way. My old project I had for ten years, before that my dual I had for twenty years.

Even now I think should I was it worth it. Most of the time I say yes. If I had the money, well I've got the money actualy , should I have spent £1500 to £2000on a new TT. I don't know but happy I didn't, have a house to replaster and a missus to keep happy.

When I got the brio I could have spent more but was happy with the sound for the money.

In the future who knows, I do fancy a m35i but that's for a different house.

I was being sarcastic, the plastic sub causes wobble but if you read my thread on the TT forum wobble gone but no real

improvement to my ears to sq with new sub.

My RP3 is steady as any TT can be!

If you buy from a respected dealer, who test, measures and tests ALL TT before deliver that kind of problems can be avoided. IMO!

It will cost a bit more, But will avoid future expenses.

I'm just saying... But sorry to heard that Steve!!!

I agree that perhaps you could afford better components. That isn't my reasoning: Rega now do RP1, 3, 6 and 8 inside of silly money. The RP1 and 3 are budget TTs, just as Debut and Xpression ranges of Pro-jects are budget models.

Add up all the additional upgrades/tweaks/urges and could afford the next model up. Clearly Rega make, on a pound-for-pound basis, more profit from these tweaks than from the TTs themselves.

That ain't right IMO. If it ain't good enough straight from the box, then ditich it.

I can't see the logic of regular tweaking.

But as I've said you probably couldn't tell the did anyway

No but just do a Google search I have a Rega and am happy with it ,but the wobble is the biggest reason to

upgrade sub-plater!!
