Unlike many I stayed away from the hype, I didn't actually know much about the film going in. I am a huge Aliens fan and all I knew was that the Space Jockey question would be answered. In conclusion it was a great film, granted it had plot holes and leaves questions unanswered for some, but this is why we will get a sequel ;)

Sound was great, but i found that it was booming way too much  Still on Bluray this will be great so I cannot wait for its release! Finally new test material

Hmm, experienced no "booming" at my local THX movie theater. Perhaps it was a fault with your theater? Maybe they need to re-calibrate their subwoofers? LOL

But yes, as flawed (IMO) as the movie was I'm sure we'll enjoy the A/V presentation on Blu-ray. Perhaps even a longer cut? Apparently october is the month of release (unofficial as of yet).

I think I am the only one that complained the speech was being muddled, everyone else seemed satisfied. Truly I have become an audiophile lollll. Next time I shall tweak the sub for them ;)

Interesting stuff, thanks

So much for Prometheus being full of "plot holes"

We already knew that though didn't we 6th ;)

Aye

Although, as I'm in the "waiting for the case for the defence to present its evidence"™ camp re religion, must confess I didn't suss the 2000 years/crucifixion link

I went to the cinema tonight & watched prometheus, i thought it was a pretty average film, i would have liked more blood & gore, if it comes on tv i may watch it but i think i will give it a miss when it comes out on blu-ray.

So, finally saw Promotheus, and at times it came perilously close to being as puke-worthy as Avatar, but just managed to avoid it. In terms of dialogue and characterisation Scott also clearly aimed for the inane lowest common denominator, but thankfully wasn't as diabolically dire as Cameron's flick. It was bearable and allowed me to enjoy the movie to the end.

On the other hand, I should not expect a silk purse from a sow's ear in these kind movies, regardless of director.

Agreed, though I'd blame Damon Lindelof for the written dialogue and characterization, in turn Ridley Scott for approving it. He knows better than this, or atleast he use to once upon a time.

Spot on. His interview with Mayo / Kermode was quite revealing I thought. The man now seems obsessed with franchising. My fundamental problem with the film was lack of a coherent storyline (exacerbated by terrible characterisation, dialogue and pointless / rubbish 3D). I'm all for ambiguity in culture, but it should be 'how do we interpret that', not 'what the hell is going on'. It seemed to me from hearing him (i) he wants to make money from blu ray / DVD with extended cuts (I just don't accept a director of his calibre can fail to produce a coherent film over 2.5 hours) and (ii) he's intentionally leaving plot holes so they can be filled in by Prequels 2 and 3 (and 4, 5, 6.....). When I pay £11.80 for a ticket (yes £11.80 cos only 3D available when we wanted to go; this is in Bury, not central London) I expect a film that tells a story in its own right. I know LOTR meant all film companies wanted 'epic' films and multiple sequels, but at least each of these was a film in its own right.

Thinking about going to see this today or tomorrow, but after reading the views of most of you on here, and the customer reviews on Imdb, I'm starting to doubt whether to bother with it.

Is there anyone who thinks it's worth watching?

I really enjoyed the film, & so did my wife. :)

Thanks BB.

I like more thoughful sci-fi like Alien, Blade Runner and 2001, and not all action shoot ups like the other Alien films.

I don't really like all effects, no story sci-fi either, so do you think I'd like it?

I thought it was a brilliant & intelligent film. It's clear that the director didn't want to dumb down the film by explaining each & every aspect. It leaves people to speculate.

Here's an interesting explanation of the film:

EDIT: It's better to watch the film first before reading the explanation.

I may well be wrong, but there seems more than a bit of 2001 about it, and I love 2001.

2001 is great, just don't watch it when you're tired. It took me 2 or 3 goes to get through it, but when I finally did, it was well worth it.

Slow, but engrossing.

I don't think the film was slow, it's just when you hold it up next to other Ridley sci-fis like Alien and Blade Runner, it's distinctly average. That was my take home.

I'd still watch it again though.

She said yes, no arguments, didn't even ask which film.

Though I had mentioned it on several occasions over the last few weeks, so she probably guessed.

I've just got back from seeing it, and I have to say I thought it was very good. There are a few moments of poorish acting and not so great dialogue, but overall, I thought it was not far short of the original Alien, and better than all of the sequels.

My only gripe really, was that the soundtrack music became noticeable in certain quieter dialogue scenes. Maybe it was too loud in the mix, or maybe it shouldn't have been there at all, I don't know.

It's certainly no 2001 but I'd still give it 7/10.
