A visit to the Royal Oak will have an effect on the perceived sound for PP so that's it for tonight. *drinks*

I went through ownership of 8 pairs of speakers, 6 CD players, 4 TTs and 6 amps in 4 years. What's the average I should aim for?

Then you end up with B&W CM1 and Roksan up to this date?

Dude... you think you are doing a noble thing for the subjectivist camp by insulting me. But you are ruining PPs thread in the process. Please open 'Vlad's Hi-Fi deficiencies' thread so we carry on there.

It took us 6 pages to get to the box arriving home. I can't wait to read what comes next!

"insulting you"?

Now now kiddiewinks... *scratch_one-s_head*

I've listened to various random tracks (10cc greatest hits, Kate Bush, Chic...) and yeah, it sounds okay. No real issues at this stage, but it is early days and I've had 3 pints. No conclusions by any stretch, but not blown away so far.

I'll fill you in over the weekend, but on initial listening the Naim isn't in yer face. I would say the Electro is brighter, although vocals have a tad more texture.

Or patronizing me, or 'putting me in my place', whatever. Vlad is wrong, big deal, no worries here. Let's just move on.

Sorry PP.

give it more time

I always had fun playing the same song at the same time on both CDPs and flip the input source with the amp remote.

It's strange. When I had the Arcam CD73T I loved it immediately, it spoke to me *no, haven't touched any funny fags*.

Cars talk to me: The other day I saw a Alfa 159 SW, same colour as mine, but couldn't for some reason connect with it like mine.

The Naim was the same, despite not being a huge Naim fan. But with the Leema it was talking to me. So far the Electro isn't saying anything special or new, but is making sense (unlike this post). *help*

You might convince yourself you like it with a few more days listening 😉

Are you sure you don't want to keep using the Naim and just put a paper bag over its head? Just make sure to leave a little hole so that you can use the remote control 🙂

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, if the Electro doesn't out do the Naim, it won't be a deal breaker. It looks better than the Naim, given it's silver like the Pulse.

So far, and I know it's very early, it isn't quite talking to me... yet.

Every CDP I have owned has sounded rough when cold, especially if it hadn't been used for a few months. Leave it on repeat for a day or two and then assess.

Like I said earlier, throw an eclectic mix of music at it and see how versatile it is. i have always found Electro products are less about "showing off" and more about getting under the skin of the music.

You guys aren't suggesting 'warm up' and dare I say it 'burn in' here are you? Don't you know those are dirty words around here?

Seriously though, I have never owned any Hi-Fi equipment which sounds at it's best straight out of the box. After a couple of days normal usage you should get a better idea of what to expect from it. It's such a pity you had such a hard time actually getting it to your front door! I hope you enjoy it! 🙂

Well, the CDP has been on almost constantly since last night, and I think my ears are starting to adjust to the different (not necessarily better) sound. It's starting to make a little more sense.

Change can be difficult to assess, especially with 2 bits of kit that are in the same ballpark (in terms of performance).

We all get used to a certain presentation....so is what you are hearing better, or just different?

IME. It can take a week or two to fully come to terms with what you are actually hearing...and often it's the swapping back again that really tells the tale ie. Either you will enjoy hearing the Naim again, or you will immediately miss the Electro.

Again, I don't think I'm telling you anything new.

Here's my first thoughts:

Given it is Scandinavian I expected it to come as a flat pack, and need a PHD in how to construct it.

Seriously, the amount of extra detail over the Naim is very audible. This, in turn, makes the player very suseptible to poor recordings, which is very surprising given how the 'Classic' range of Electros are lauded on here for their neutral/smooth presentation. By contrast to the Naim, the Electro doesn't have the low end punch of the Naim; not sure how this will play out over long sessions. Everything I've read about it being a 'slow burner' and doesn't smack you around the face like the Naim isn't ringing true with me at the moment. Perhaps the Electro is just too revealing for my taste.

Not really sure at this stage what to think about the Electro: It's true both players are in a similar ballpark. The Naim somehow seems easier on the ear.

I will persevere with it for a week or so and see if things change. There are certain aspects I love about the Electro, but unsure whether it is a real viable long-term alternative to the Naim.
