Indeed. No-one goes to a rock concert and at the end say 'great group, just wish there was less distortion and feedback...'

Actually I do. *lol*

Thank goodness for that, I thought it was just me *biggrin*

I always find this amusing.

To be fair it is very rare that the sound balance is so bad that it spoils my enjoyment of the music .

I always take a pair of in ear pro guard -9 db filters with me just in case it gets too bad because in the past I have been to venues where the distortion has become physically painful to me !

In terms of live sound production I paid my dues in an other era, the business was nothing like as professional as it is now so I am surprised it is still an issue. Much of the live music I have heard in recent times has been relatively small scale and, by the standards of my youth, and at a quite decent standard. The loudest I have heard recently was New York band Diiv, in a small gig in north london. It was pretty loud but not excessively distorted, not bad at all in fact.

Still doesn't stop me wanting to get behind the desk and 'sort it out', in this case the issue was over prominent vocals, often a problem when the leader of the band is also the singer.

My ego thought you were poking regarding this thread (comment #54 onwards).

IME regarding the PA sound quality. It absolutely is on everyones mind, audiophiles or no audiophiles. Here where I live there are only 3 companies that do it properly and professionally (it's a small country). It doesn't matter if it's the JBL or EV or RCF guys, the sound is always well sorted, with DSP implemented to addapt to the arena/space where it is happening.

Many events from big names were ruined with bad PA because the organizers had a tight budget and people talk about it for years after. "Did you go and see this band? Yeah, got drunk, we had a great time, the sound was rubbish though. Half the sub amps died in mid performance, it was just shouting when the X song came on". If he/she is a real band fanboy/fangirl he/she will curse for half an hour at the event organizers for the bad sound compared to the high price ticket. A blasphemy to present the favorite band with some rubbish PA.

This is so present issue that organizers place the hired PA company logo on the event flyers as an incentive for the potential audience. If there is no PA company logo, it's a shoot in the dark and often disapointing to the fan/music lover, more so than to the mildly interested audiophile.

*Cough* *Cough*

Think we've overstewed the distortion and the lukewarm approach of the virtues of the TT/vinyl.

I started this thread "...What have I done?", as in purchased a CDP on a whim. Can't tell you anymore other than it's still at the carriers, until tomorrow (hopefully).

Not interested in Vlads spec sheets or Dave.co's interests in how to buy or own a active set-up.

As regards couriers ringing customers direct, can I just say that the company I work for and UPS do not provide mobile telephones to their drivers, so the vast majority of the lads will not use their own personal mobiles on company business.

Bloody hope they do. They did say no to mobiles (Tuesday) and after a heated phone call (Wednesday) they said they did and will. Not sure in that case how the hell I'm gonna get my CDP.

My tracking has been updated to 'rescheduled' status. And they've given me a estimated delivery time (2.30-5.30pm).

There's nothing else for it PP, you'll just have to camp out on your front door step with a flask of something hot from 2.30 with a fluorescent yellow jacket on.

If they still fail to deliver tell them you're gonna send the WHF forum boys round cos they want to hear what you've got to say about this CDP!

Depends on the individual PP.

On the personal front, I am one of the minority who if faced with the problems that the UPS couriers have apparently finding you, I would have no qualms about ringing the recipient to check your whereabouts. It doesn't happen that often, and I don't mind ringing the client direct, but that's just me and I'm in the minority I reckon. Sad as it might sound, but if I could see it was some rather nice and expensive hi-fi equipment I would (and have in the past) go the extra mile to ensure it gets delivered. Over the years I've seen some splendid systems in people's homes whilst working, and cheekily asked to have a quick listen.

Good luck.

If only it was as simple as sitting outside the front door, the driver wouldn't have problem.

The small estate was built in different stages so none of the numbers correspond. To reach our bungalow requires a little leg work; park up and walk through one of the alleyways and we are in the far corner, but the front door is around the side -- our bungalow is behind the new two-storey flats.

(Fully explained this to UPS...)

Before the construction all the nooks and crannies were numbered nicely but now it's a literal enigma.

I suppose if they can't find us tomorrow I'll have to seek advice from the dealer. I've effectively lost two days pay... not a happy bunny.

Ever fed-up.

I've consulted the Oracle and have been told it's a bad Omen.....but who believes in Oracles?

Okay, you can banish your Oracles and worry beads to the wheelie bin. I've opened the box to make sure a baby ostrich didn't fly out and ... o/

Switched it on to let it warm up for an hour while I sink a couple down the boozer. Think I've earned it.

After all that and you still haven't heard it yet? *wacko*

Well, I've been waiting since Monday for it, another hour isn't going to hurt.

(Royal Oak beckons)

I don't know about you but I can't take this suspense any longer. *shok*

Take your time PP.. don't rush and be sooo excited! I have had Naim cdp(cdx2) and current Electro emc 1UP. I would say the difference in presentation is quite different and some would say the naim is better cause they are used to it.

New gear should be left to accomodate to room temperature for 2 hours without being plugged in the power outlet.

May the bedding in games begin!

I went through ownership of 8 pairs of speakers, 6 CD players, 4 TTs and 6 amps in 4 years. What's the average I should aim for?
