If I remember correctly. Powering on and holding certain buttons performs some kind of reset.

Your player will either play SACD or it will not, a reset will not resolve that.....Well....
My CD player would not recognise SACDs (bought it second hand)
Reading through the manual. A reset solved the problem.
Mind you, I think that a factory reset is very very rare on these things.

the OP has a CD player.....Aha young man. That's just it.
It began to recognise SACDs after the reset.
