Will the review include 3400 ?

No, just the STR-DA2400ES. AFAIK the 3400 is an official UK model, as it was on the same press release as the 5400 and 2400, but we haven't been given any information about availability.

If I get one do you want to come round my house and review it?

I'll bring the receiver, teas and scones; you bring the HD projectors and 5.1 speaker sets!

I know of a few people who have ordered the str-da3400es and they should be getting the amp in a day or two.

I might be getting one as well as I'm in desperate need of a new amp and could not have an ugly Onkyo.

Plenty more choices in the market than just Onkyo and Sony, you know!

Anyhow, we're onto Sony re the 3400 and will keep you updated, as we will continue to do so with the fix/availability situation re the 820/2400

Sorry Clare, not if you want HD audio, upconversion, upscaling to 1080p and PRE OUTS for £400! It's the Sony all the way.

Has anybody seen the STR-DA3400ES on sale on the interweb. The only places I see it all point back to one company which makes me suspicious. Anybody pre ordered with a reputable site ?

Type in sony str-da3400es in google then at the top of the page click on "shopping", you'll then get two shops selling it at £649. There is another shop but their price is £699.

Yes done that but both those shops are the same company which worries me and my emails about stock have gone unanswered. I am trying to reward a company that is honest and says waiting stock not one that takes your order then tells you that you have to wait.

Or you can order from somewhere and, if they immediately say it's not in stock, cancel the order. What really pees me off is the stores that say it is in stock on the website, so you order, they take your money and then email you to say they're awaiting stock. Seriously, if you're not dispatching the item, you shouldn't be taking my money!
Somewhere did that recently to me, I emailed them to ask when stock was due and got an auto reply saying they would contact me within 24 hours to answer my question. 24 hours later I cancelled my order and said if my query wasn't important to them, then my money surely wouldn't be going to them. Took a couple of days for the refund but I'd rather that than pay money to that kind of business.

I clicked on contact us and they have the same stores in Basildon and Romford.

I thought they were two seperate stores if you hadn't posted that.

I wouldn't order from them and I'll tell you why, I never order anything from online shops that have an 0870 number. Greedy - saynoto0870.

Best to wait until it's out properly.

I noticed that when you search the net for something, a store you've never heard of comes up, you click on it and it takes you to play.

OldGregg: Just paid the local shop a visit, apparently the 2400 at least is being shipped out on the 26th September.

I have just visited my local Sony store and they say that only the silver is released on the 26th September - the black version will not be available till the 26th November. I hope that that is a mistake on the system!!

I just spoke to Superfi (Camden branch) and they are getting them "trickling in" from today. The only problem for me is when I asked how much they would be, I got the dreaded (£50 over the expected price) answer of £499.

I know what you mean but the pre-ordered ones should mean that they are awaiting stock from Sony and therefore will be the new batch. The reason that they have not had any in stock is because Sony stopped sending the faulty ones out.

What do you think then, pre order one to be sure of a bargain price? or do you think the price will stay the same at the cheaper retailers? Suppose its a coin toss when it comes down to it!

Well confirmation from Stone Audio at least that they are fresh stock straight from Sony. However, so many people have pre-ordered that they reckon early December if I ordered now!!

Early December is not ideal! I guess its difficult for them to anticipate the supply they will get from Sony.

Think i will wait for the WHF review and then pre order one if it looks good.

Don't suppose we're any closer to knowing exactly when the review will come online? If it will do so before the next edition?

Well it looks like my wait for the STR-DA3400ES continues, seems like one of the three sites listed in the uk, EDITED by Mods is another one of those shyster companies that advertises stock but has none.

And thank you government, the ASA will take complaints regarding "Advertisements on the Internet, include banner ads and pop-up ads (not claims on companies' own websites) . Which beggars belief. Basically these people can advertise stuff in stock and take your money without any regard.

What's worse is these people are authorised Sony resellers. Thanks Sony.

They actually charged you? I know play.com do stuff like this, advertising stock when they have none but, they don't charge you till the item's dispatched.

Not me, I was suspicious of them, but somebody over at other forum ordered one last week which their site advertises as next day delivery and after three days and the money leaving his account he cancelled.

This is false advertising and if companies like this lose one sale because somebody reads this thread then I will be happy. The funniest thing is, if they said awaiting stock I might have ordered from them.

You'll know when it's out because it'll be widely available and not just from 2 shops who don't have it anyway.

As for the 3 shops advertising it, 2 of them are the same. hcs direct+multizone av.

They all use the 0870 number which is about time it was banned and the Government don't care.

Well it looks like the 3400 is a failure already. Talking to somebody who has already purchased one there seems to be no IR Remote port which, if true, means that

a) The second remote is useless

b) The Zone 2 video stuff is pretty useless as well

Looks like you have to go back to Zone 1 to control this amp. If this is true then I can see why Sony did not give one to WHF to test as they must have been embarrassed. If you were going to pay retail prices for the 3400 I for one would not recommend it.

Well, I've gone ahead and gambled. I've ordered the 3400es from Hifi Confidential. They have three units at the moment and are expecting some more soon. They are awaiting a delivery on the 2400s very soon also.

I doubt that I will ever use the Zone 2 posibilities and so it's not important to me. I'm more interested in the sound and upscaling it can do.

Said naughty company wanted Western Union which is virtually untraceable.
