not many new blood or young people are going to be forking that amount of cash out to buy their first hifi system
True, but I don't know many Naim owners who bought Naim as their first system - most people would see it as at least "halfway up the ladder" rather than the first rung... I know I have always aspired to own a Naim pre/power system, and even now (barring taking a risk on 25yr old ebay kit) would still love to have that green light emanating from my equipment rack...
I think it's a bit like an Aston, or a Ferarri. Or even a Bentley, in that it's a distant goal for some people. And in that case, why not pair an aspirational brand with another?
Hi, The problem I see is that there are far more common cars than Bentlys, I have no aspirations to own a Bently at all, nor any BMW, and far less people can afford those type of cars than the common makes, so turning that around to hifi, if it becomes too expensive no new blood will come through as they wont be able to afford it, just look at the amount of interest there is in hifi these days to say 15 years ago, it is much less, so I feel if we want hifi to survive we should try to capture the interest of the young as there are far more of them than there are Bently or any other luxury car manufacture drivers.
