What's more, Bentley's other big announcement at the show was that 'we... will make the entire Bentley fleet capable of delivering less than 120g/km [of CO2] by 2012". At the moment a Continental GT Speed produces 396g/km.

Excellent. I'll get one for the missus too.

Are they going to run the engine off the heat produced by 1100 W of Power amp then?

No, off one of the two optional SuperCaps.

It shows the sad state of audio to me, that you need to get your name, no pun intended, in with a upmarket snob car manufacture, that includes B&W, Linn, Dynaudio to name just a few, it shows who there market really is and abandoning any new blood that would be interested in affordable audio.

Yeah Dynaudio with Volkswagen, real 'upmarket snob car manufacturer'. People's car, nein?

Except the Naim guys will tell you the amazing amount they've learned about digital signal processing as a result of this ongoing project, and how they're already thinking about how this knowledge will be applied to their core products.

And as for abandoning any new blood, you're absolutely right - that of course is why Naim didn't launch a new CD player and amp in its entry-level 5 series while it's been working on this project.

It's really just a matter of specialist audio companies diversifying in order to expand and survive, rather than abandoning anyone.

Kind of sums up the feel of the whole show - supercars on one side, hybrids and low C02 city-cars on the other. Most of the big names had a mix of the two. Oh and a Koenigsegg able to delivering 1018 brake on bio-ethanol.

That's £1600 before you have even bought speakers, not many new blood or young people are going to be forking that amount of cash out to buy their first hifi system, so they might as well go for the Bently Brigade.

So about the same price as the previous CD5/Nait 5 models, then, if rather more expensive than the Huygens MCD1202.

But then this is hardly the place for one manufacturer or distributor - I assume that's what you are, given your comments elsewhere about having a product in for review at some website or other - to question the motives, policies or strategies of another...

True, but I don't know many Naim owners who bought Naim as their first system - most people would see it as at least "halfway up the ladder" rather than the first rung... I know I have always aspired to own a Naim pre/power system, and even now (barring taking a risk on 25yr old ebay kit) would still love to have that green light emanating from my equipment rack...

I think it's a bit like an Aston, or a Ferarri. Or even a Bentley, in that it's a distant goal for some people. And in that case, why not pair an aspirational brand with another?

Actually, I was thinking of putting them in some Ferrari's LOL. Other companies can put there products were they like, at what price they like, it's none of my business, but I was making or trying to make the point it shows what kind of market a company is targeting at i.e Aston Martins, BMW, Bently or what ever.

Hi, The problem I see is that there are far more common cars than Bentlys, I have no aspirations to own a Bently at all, nor any BMW, and far less people can afford those type of cars than the common makes, so turning that around to hifi, if it becomes too expensive no new blood will come through as they wont be able to afford it, just look at the amount of interest there is in hifi these days to say 15 years ago, it is much less, so I feel if we want hifi to survive we should try to capture the interest of the young as there are far more of them than there are Bently or any other luxury car manufacture drivers.

It makes perfect sense to me and I would imagine its a great advertisement for their product. Naim is a high end manufacturer and Bentley aren't exactly throwing out garbage. Someone who spends over £100k on a car would no doubt appreciate a quality product and therefore likely to have the means and the motive to spend a fair bit on quality hi fi.

Why do you call it a snob car manufacturer? No point having a touch of the green eyed monster because it might be out of your reach. Would you rather everyone drove around in standard issue Kia's or TATA's?

Your entitled to you opinion of course but strange that someone in a forum that lends itself to people that appreciate quality should hold such an opinion.

There was a very cool little Tata city car, the Nano, making its European debut at the Geneva show. Oh and the Dacia Sandero was OK, too - set to sell here for £6k.

Actually we used to have a Porsche and my brother still has one if that helps you, and you'll find as well that people that have these type of cars really don't care about the name of the audio system within the car, but your right it's good marketing.
Owning those cars are more trouble than there are worth, you have to keep your eyes on them constantly because somebodies else's is.

I can't wait to hear how good it is! My Jeep Grand Cherokee has a Boston Accoustics Sound System in it. However, it is the usual "power over detail" affair and I guess it reflects the car overall! You want bass - you got it! You want loud - you got it! You want detail - forget it. Best audio system in a car I have ever heard was in a Lexus GS430, shortly followed by my old Lexus IS200, and the M3's Harmon Kardon one I had was fairly good albleit over processed.
