Hi,

For a few years now I have been running (big) studio monitors rated at 4 ohms impedence off of my Arcam alpha 9 amp! I have recently bought a new cd player and switched back to my Arcam 2 speakers (8 ohms) and am really happy with the sound apart fo the bass being a little light. I have put this down to the speakers but before investigating/investing in, new speakers could I have damaged the amp by running the 4 ohm speakers from it?

The reason I switched speakers was because they far too large for the room and the wrong impedence! I'm just getting back into listening to music a lot so any avice would be appreciated.

Many Thanks.

The lightness in bass with your new setup is expected and it's due to the speakers, their limitations and their interaction with the room.

The likelihood is the speakers will damage before the amp. Powering tricky loads with a underpowered amp is a killer for speakers, especially if you have a tendancy to crank it high.

BTW, what speakers were you driving?
