Hi Fi is still alive thanks to this and other mags and forums like this - positive reinforcement!
I was also thinking going AV route (how could I?!) after moving continents (US to UK) but kind forum members steered me in the "right" direction... But I agree in the US its almost dead. I can't recall any of my friends in USofA having a hi-fi setup.
