I am with CNO

Approx £9k on the picture

Approx £30k on the sound and your getting somewhere :)

That should be the ratio balance
Thats not my ratio balance then, what's yours?

i've spent £1468 on my video portion of my home cinema and £1420 on my sound. so close together actually!

i dont include the blu ray player in the price of the video, only the tv
I calculated Blu-Ray with sound. TV £6250 and sound about £6250 again, incuding stand and cables. Used to own a Philips £1479 TV with my £6250 sound setup. So I am definitely into my sound and picture equally now, used to be more sound but have come fascinated by TVs. *smile*

I remember as a tween when I saw a B&O flat wide screen CRT TV with couple of my friends, the reaction of the group was WOW it's huge!!! I was the wacko who was stunned by the sound of the first TV with bass ports he ever saw. Only the owner boasted on the picture quality (word for word from the brochures probably), no one else cared.

A 40" Beovision 11 would be great. Two of these three-way active speakers built in ...

They are still at it, apparently. :) I can confidently say that TV doesn't need a soundbar.

When I think about it, all film buffs I know have projectors (trying to recreate the cinema experience?). I usually find gigantic TVs in soccer fan homes, I think a fad coming from the large screens they stare at in betting shops.

I doubt Son and Gel buy these behemots for the love of cinema. It's a male hunter-gatherer sport/hobby like any other and the theme is just a theme.

In my case, I'd say my desire for a larger television was about 80% love of cinema (from the back row of my parlour seats, the 75" Sony gives a better cinematic experience than the 65" Panasonic that it replaced) and 20% male showing-off / hunter-gatherer hobby!

Which offers better value for money, projectors or TV screens? I'm fairly ignorant on this topic.

Depends. I would say projectors, although Son_of_SJ got a great deal in his TV!

I've seen bigboss's home cinema system, and his system, when showing Blu-rays, is simply the best 1080p picture that I've ever seen - at other peoples' houses, at audio-visual dealers, at home cinema shows, anywhere! Bigboss's system is the best 1080p system that I've seen. So whatever he paid for it is money very well spent.

Still, I'm sure that I'll be completely happy with my own Sony (£2049) and Panasonic (£2070) televisions, once they are calibrated!

Don't forget I paid for my last £8000 TV for £1800 and got a sound bar and tablet free so £1550. Just don't think this one will drop as much. John Lewis High Wycombe were selling of an ex-display at £6599 this weekend.

Can you remember exactly how big the B&O screen was?

By the way, I should have mentioned in my post #163 that bigboss has a projector and screen display for films, not a television (although he also has a television for normal viewing). You can get his details from his signature.

The comment on unless you have HDR the improvement benefit over Blu Ray is minimal.

I think thats because its mostly only 2k Content available and will change over tim - one hopes :)

Pretty interesting review - also saying unless you have a top TV no point. I will be alright then. *smile*

"On the other hand, cheaper HDR-capable TVs -- such as myriad midrange models due later this year -- probably won't show as much of an advantage. We weren't able to test any such sets directly with 4K Blu-ray yet, but our previous tests with models such as Samsung's JS8500, one of the cheapest current HDR TVs, aren't encouraging. Then again, maybe with some discs and newer HDR-capable TVs there will be a substantial improvement."

Classic bit of "we haven't tried it, but here's our verdict" – they really haven't a clue, have they?
