FWIW. I think "sound" makes up well over 50% of the AV experience, unless you have room for a projector and big screen....so if I already had a decent TV, I would rather spend a substantial budget (several thousand), on upgrading the sound (eg. Centre and Sub), as it would lead to a more exciting and immersive experience (for me).

NB. I am not trying to come up with something else for Gel to spend his money on. *unknw*

Yes, and you've posted this on gel's thread! *fool*
I have long since learned that stopping Gel from spending his money is next to impossible...so the next best thing is to get him to stop and think about where the biggest benefit might come....and preferably spend nothing at all (by not being fixated on TVs).

To be fair to Gel, at least he has (somehow) kept his LG 980W OLED for 17 months. There's someone called zAndy1 on the AVForums who seems to change his televisions at least every 12 months! And arenaman has spent £25,000 on televisions over the years, see post #100 and the next five of this thread https://www.avforums.com/threads/what-would-someone-pay-for-a-panasonic-60zt65-plasma-tv-now.2012921/page-4#post-23271236
Yep, and I am upgrading in size too.  The Limey has been through two since his LG 55EA980w and now he is on the Panasonic too.

You do know it's not a competition don't you? Just because someone else has bought more TVs than you, you don't have to try to keep up with them.

Yes it is, and I'm the winner, I'm the winner! Pioneer 428XD in July 2008 (and decommissioned in February 2016), Pioneer LX5090 in September 2009, LG 60PZ950T in December 2011, Samsung PS64D8000 in March 2012 (and given away in December 2014), Panasonic TX-P65VT65 in December 2014 and Sony KDL-75W855C in February 2016. Funds permitting, another 75-inch, but 4K and HDR in late 2017 or 2018.

Gosh, writing them all out like that makes me look worse than Gel! *dance4* But unlike arenaman on AVForums, none of mine cost more than £2,440, which was the Pioneer LX5090.

I am not keeping up though. Giving it a good shot though. *smile*

I have got the mix between picture and sound just about right then.

Yes, that was kind of my point, you only seem to be buying these things because other people are buying them and you appear to believe you have to do the same thing as them.

In my case, I bought the new 75" Sony, after months of accumulating the money, only because I wanted something bigger than the 65" Panasonic, quite irrespective of what anyone else was doing.

Blimey I have had my Pioneer PDP-436SXE for probably 10 years now and its still going strong.

My 46" panasonic plasma from 2008 was still going strong when i got rid of it in 2014 for a 55" samsung however i still use my microwave which i got in the late 80's as it's still in full working order. *smile*

Yes my KRP-500A is probably older than I think it is, definitely out of the 5 year warranty but I can't remember exactly how old now, I bought it when Pioneer announced they were quitting TVs, whenever that was.

Even if I wanted to replace it now I don't think I could, I can't find any other TV with a separate tuner box like the KRPs had and that's kind of crucial the way I have the room set up, I can't have half a dozen cables trailing to and from the TV position, so if I did need to replace the TV I'd probably have to buy an HDMI equipped AV receiver as well and run all the connections through that.

2009 it was. Mine was from the last batch of Kuros.

I am with CNO

Approx £9k on the picture

Approx £30k on the sound and your getting somewhere 🙂

That should be the ratio balance

Nope, I just wanted to go 4K and HDR.

Thats not my ratio balance then, what's yours?

You can watch video without sound or listen to sound without picture. I prefer the later as I am a cult believer in "theater of the mind". I listen to radio daily and love audio books. I don't own a TV and only TV watching I do is occasional movie or series online.

I doubt Son and Gel buy these behemots for the love of cinema. It's a male hunter-gatherer sport/hobby like any other and the theme is just a theme.

I tend to agree. We are happy with a 32" that gets replaced when the 5 year guarantee expires.(If the TV industry is dying then i'm to blame.)

I listen to radio drama, comedy, documentary, and the content from quite a few hundred BBC CDs and a lot of downloaded audiobooks. I have listened to BBC Radio 4 almost every single day of my life since I was about 14 when they first broadcast 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'.

My wife likes to watch TV in the evening for an hour or two and we like an occasional DVD or Blu-ray.

I don't 'get' TV gigantism but you might be right about the hunter-gatherer thing.

I used to own a Philips 32-inch in my current setup and loved it. TVs have got better with size though eg OLED only starts at 55-inches and Panasonic OLED only 65-inches.

So I got my Angels and Demons 4K mastered in Blu-Ray will that look better on my new TV?
