No harm in trying, I'll give it a whirl now!

They came back to me this morning on the last one at £990 and only refused it because of the lack of a shop!!

If only eh?!

Yep, it ticks a lot of what they want.

I've left it as brief as I can, that normally helps

In my experience someone from JL goes online, checks the product and if they can tick all the NKU boxes

If my memory serves me correctly, I tried a price match with Hyperfi on my GT30 in 2011 and they threw it out because the GT30 at Hyperfi was graded/reconditioned

Let's see eh?

Right so just caught up with the thread...first of all I'm with bigboss and I can't see JL matching that deal I'm afraid but then if you don't ask you don't get so it's well worth trying.

I think their response has been on one hand good and on the other bad in all honesty. The bad is the bit where they said you had already had your goodwill gesture, I'm of the opinion that if that original gesture of goodwill replacement then has issues then they should be more inclined to do all they can to help you. I find that stance a bit puzzling in all honesty as a faulty TV is a faulty TV full stop no?

The offer of renumeration and to let you hold on to the GT50 until the new year is a positive step forward though but as others have stated you need to get assurances in writing about that offer just to cover yourself in case they magically have no record of the offer when you take them up on it. I know it means more potential outlay but I really think they won't budge from that stance now and in all honesty you have done well to get that when the original issue goes back to a GT30 and I'm sure they are looking at your case as a whole here in making their decision.

It's a really difficult situation because JL could quite rightly tell you where to go if they wanted to as the faults are considered within spec although clearly there is something wrong with your set, a second opinion would be your only other option if you wanted to pursue it further and the outcome of that could potentially affect the offer you have already been given as they could withdraw it and even lower it depending on the result of the tests. Of course a second opinion could go in your favour but for me I don't think it's worth the time and hassle, after all the TV has to come off the wall again then go away for another 3 weeks or so and then you would have to negotiate all over again once the results were known.

In your situation I would take the offer and wait until gel gets the price down on the F8000 for you to a level where you can afford to splash the extra cash...I'm certain he will find a deal for you sooner rather than later and certainly before Christmas. It's not ideal I know but it is a result of sorts and the best you are going to get so take it, I would :)

Thanks to everyone who has posted

In theory I accepted the offer from JL last night

I just need time to speed up, and the F8000 to drop in price

I've emailed the manager at JL and asked him to confirm in writing his offer. (oh, and to add 1 month on as this saga began in October, not November, so the TV was 13 months old, and not 14 as he stated!)

I've got every confidence in gel, he clearly spends his days looking for bargains! (maybe it's his job?!)

I am just doing voluntary charity work (for people with learning disabilities) as an administration assistant at the moment for 2 days a week, so I have a lot of spare time which I mainly spend looking for deals and posting on here. My next step will probably be part time and then full time. I would like an office job, or something like a trainee computer programmer, just got to see what comes along really.

I'll keep a lookout for deals too, it may take a while because of the current Samsung cashback deal. Once that deal has gone another one will probably kick in. I once bought a Samsung 46D8000 and that was at Xmas time and across the range they were doing deals. What about asking for a replacement until you can afford it? Just get rid of the GT50.

I note that the current Samsung deal (Cashback off a further purchase of a Samsung product) expires at noon on the 24th December

Just in time for the January sales....

Update

All confirmed in writing by the manager from JL

I cheekily rounded their offer for my TV up by £20, and he agreed, so that's £20 less I need to find now

The hunt for a bargain 55F8000 has begun...

Now then gel, how are you getting on??!!

I submitted a NKU price match yesterday.

Haven't heard back, they seem to be taking 48 hours rather than the quoted 24 hours, so I should hear tomorrow....

BTW, have you seen this site http://www.staticice.co.uk ??

'Accidentally' found myself in a Pansonic store today, looking at a 50VT65....

Should I?, Dare I?

Needless to say they slagged off the F8000 (slightly unprofessional I felt)

Guy in the shop says Kuro technology is found in VT and ZT but nothing below that, is this correct?

It is up to you on the Panasonic TV. Nope I would say that is not correct at all on the Kuro technology, the GT60 is known to be nearly as good as the VT65.

Definately incorrect information given to you there...what a surprise!

Panasonic took a lot of the Kuro engineers as soon as Pioneer sacked them so to say that shows just how little that salesman actually knows, and again no surprise that he slagged off a non Panasonic TV...what did you expect when you went into a Panasonic store...they weren't ever going to recommend anything other than a Panasonic TV were they even if it was complete rubbish.

It's up to you if you buy another Panasonic plasma but are you really seriously considering it after all the hassle you have been through already? :?
