If this is the price match at £1616, it is highly unlikely you will get it:

http://www.electronicempire.co.uk/televisions/3d-tvs/samsung-ue55f8000-55-smart-3d-led-full-hd

This is Total Digital's clearance website, which John Lewis don't do. You have to find the deal on Total Digital website.

I knew you'd know gel

£70 more on totaldigital's site

I think I'll just ask JL to sell me an F8000 at cost, as a gesture of goodwill

Chances??!!

OK, game for a laugh time...

www.countrykitchenappliances.com

Check out the low low prices of the latest TV's, and see what you get free with some of them (F8000 and W905)

This is the site I 'found' when researching prices of the F8000

An hour or so ago I realised why the images were so familiar.... they are copied from currys.co.uk as is the text!

I've emailed DSG and made them aware!

Clearly a total con, avoid at all costs!

Blimey, I have never seen that one before. Yep, I can't see John Lewis price matching that.

if only....

It's clearly a 'give us your money via PayPal' con

Not sure how that works given that PayPal is supposed to be secure, and you can get your money back...

You could try and get them to through in some 3D glasses too:

That site is highly dubious at best, minimal information and payment via PayPal along with a site designed by a school kid doesn't inspire confidence. I can find no business info on a company registered at the address given, avoid.

Also some of the pictures seem to be of the wrong model of TV as the F8000 picture isn't right and I should know.

I presume from the multiple head banging icons that he hasn't gel or that if he has it's not good news, in this case JL have not performed well to date have they.

This one has dragged on for too long now and I would have expected a resolution by now...time to escalate the situation yet I wonder?

This is cheaper; get them to price match!

That's very funny guys

Can we get a petition together to get either of these included in the box of every new TV you buy with a warning saying you might just need these...

OK, so JL did call me last night...

In essence, they are standing firm on their offer of a partial refund of £1126.00

Apparently this is way outside their normal operating proceedures, as normally you are only entitled to a refund within the first 28 days

JL are of the opinion that the issues with the TV are within specification and that a 2nd engineer will only confirm this. This refund is their way of helping me...

They asked me if I had sourced a replacement from their website/in store (this is what they asked me to look at when they called last Saturday)

I went through the whole LED sets are either 46" or 55", and that I didn't want to go smaller, and that I thought the 55F8000 was about the only TV they had that came close to my requirements, but was a significant price hike from the £1126 they were now offering me for the GT50. The guy agreed that this probably was the best replacement. However, he is not prepared to do anything on price, as apparently I have 'already had' my goodwill when they replaced the GT30 that they couldn't repair in November 2012 for the GT50

To say I was gobsmacked at this statement was an understatement!

So we reached stalemate! Even with a price match from totaldigital on the F8000 this leaves me with £550 to find, which to be honest is more than I am prepared to spend at this time, given that its Christmas in 5 weeks time, and also that I personally don't think it is very fair of JL to leave me in this position.

They did say I could keep the GT50 and we would call it quits. This is not an option for me and I told them that I wasn't prepared to keep the GT50 as I do not believe a £1399 TV should be like this after only 13 months. The box it came in quite clearly says Television on the side of it, which in my eyes means that I should be able to watch TV on it without the fear of DSE or IR.

The JL manager could 'see' that I was frustrated at the lack of resolution, but continued to tell me that he was already sticking his neck out, and he could only think of 1 other instance in the past 2 years where he had authorised a refund after their 28 day rule.

None of this was helping me though!

So, after some gentle discussion, in which I mentioned NKU and price matching, he has suggested that I sit tight and wait for the 55F8000 to drop in price, be it on their website or a competitiors, and when it does I can call him and we will arrange the swap over. (during this time the offer of £1126 for my TV stands)

Clearly there isn't an indefinte timescale on this, but he suggested that the New Year was a good time to speak next.

So in essence it's not sorted, but depending on Samsung's announcement of 2014 models in the coming weeks and the therefore inevitable price reduction of the 2013 models I could end up getting sorted early in 2014.

As a footnote, for those of you with GT50's bought from John Lewis who have issues, time is of the essence for you to call/contact them now, as you can see what a battle I am having, and there seemingly are no guarantee's that they will repeat this for other customers. It appears that they will stand on their right to claim that DSE and IR are NOT covered by any warranty, and this could ultimately be their 'get out of jail free' card.

In the meantime, I will be keeping a careful watch on various website's in the hope that the F8000 price starts to tumble, thereby making my financial gap smaller!

oh, and guys, I've been through 2 boxes of nurofen this week already! :wall:

@bigboss thanks

i have the managers direct line and email, plus the calls are recorded so they can't go back on the offer

My biggest gripe is that it's cost me £273 to end up with a duff TV

hopefully Samsung will announce their 2014 models at CES and the 2013 models will drop in price soon!

Whilst I agree with you on what the 'comparative' model should be for the F8000, part of the issue here is the cost to get to a 55" TV, because I can't go backwards to a 46"

I'll keep a lookout for deals too, it may take a while because of the current Samsung cashback deal. Once that deal has gone another one will probably kick in. I once bought a Samsung 46D8000 and that was at Xmas time and across the range they were doing deals. What about asking for a replacement until you can afford it? Just get rid of the GT50.

@gel thank you

JL are happy for me to sit tight with the GT50

theyre going to write it off anyway, and it'll go down as wastage. (The manager tried to claim they would be losing £1399 until I pointed out that JL don't pay retail for anything...)

given that it's back on the wall I can't be bothered with any more hassle, plus if they change it for something I'll end up losing money when I come to shift whatever it is

as it is, I've now got a depreciation proof tv, albeit one that is 'faulty'

I think it will work. There is a shop for sure and they say as new condition and 12 month warranty, argue on that. Don't mention anything else.
