Just ask for a circuit diagram to be posted out to you and ask to speak to one of the tech guys.

Think the clarity cap mod is well outside the manufacturing price point. Don't think the caps in the Gold series will be as good either.

You will find them apparently in the top end of the B&W ranges.

trevor79, thanks. Three questions:

Would you be able to send me the wiring diagram? (email is mrsushi@comcast.net)

What is the part number of the Clarity Cap you used?

If I understand the mod correctly, I will need 2 Vishays and 2 Clarity Caps per speaker (total of 4 of each)?

Hi Trevor

Should i get the power conditioner to suply the contious wattage the systems needs? if so is this a good one panamax 4300

http://www.panamax.com/Products/A-V-Components/M4300-PM.aspx

Not familiar with this one in the UK. Personally I prefer a BIG Mains Transformer with surge protection to do the cleaning and smoothing of the supply. I don't like anything with LED lights, meters, built in as they put 'Noise' onto the supply as well.

Would start off 1st with buying decent Mains cables to replace the Kettle leads (plenty of posts on here about them), doing the Clarity Cap mods and running the whole system in for a good 200hrs.
Will be surprised if you are not very pleased with how your system sounds, which will be miles better than leaving everything as it was.

I have no idea how clean your grid is where you live and the amount of pollution on it, how far it is from the Sub Station, the quality of the supply Earthing etc. These things greatly effect the degree of improvement on things. If you live in the middle of the countryside with few uses on the grid the improvements will be much less than if you live in the city with many computers, fluorescent lights etc putting pollution onto the Mains.

Hi Trevor,

I think one last question, also to anyone as well. Bi-Wire or not to Bi-wire? I have read all of this site and a few other sites and got more confused. You have monitor audios like me should i purchase bi wire cables or just the regular cables?

Some say huge improve ments some say nothing changes, Some say it depends how good your speakers are, or the receiver.

By the way im going with Ultralink cables either EXCELSIOR 2.4© MkIIBI-WIRE SPEAKER CABLE or AMBIANCE© MkIISPEAKER CABLE. My wife has a client who is a speaker cable specialis he use to work for sony and paradigm and she never mentioned this to me the whole time and he recomended these 2 over kimber and chord.

They will do the same thing in the price range i was looking for they cost about $450 Canadian for 3metres. i iwll get the discount :)

also banana plugs on both ends?

Good morning (UK time)

On my system I have the fronts Bi-wired and Bi-amped. Prefer to run seperate cables rather than linked ones with Bi-amping, but that's just me.

Clarity cap values I used were 1x3.9uf and 1x6.8uf per speaker. I bought mine off IPL and the Vishay MKP 1837 from Farnells.

I found they really improved the timing and music, especially the mid range was clearer and more foot tapping!
Started to listen to the music more and not the speakers, if you know what I mean.

Biwiring really isn't worth it, don't waste the money.

Well much depends on the quality of the cables and system you are working on.
I agree that the gains using the same cables through out can be small. But for me I want to extract the last ounce of detail and so I use Kimber 4TC on the mids/treble for crystal-clear sound on the fronts (current cost £33mtr) and QED SA XT throughout everything else. (which was around 25mtrs)

Much better things to spend your money on 1st if you are on a more limited budget to get the max out of your system.

whasaaaab:What speaker cable is go for the sub silver RSW12? there are so many on this site with great 5 start ratings looking to spend $100 to $300?

You don't need to go for anything like that price range. I use the Qed Performance Miniature Sub-Woofer cable which is about £35 for 3m or try Chord Crimson (about the same price). If you want to splash out a bit more, and need a bit longer in length, I would suggest this would be a decent cable (and about as much as you need to spend) but spending a third of the cost of the sub on cable ($100-$200) would be a bit silly in my opinion.

But you use Chord Odyssey 4 with MA RS6's yourself. That's spending more than 1/3 the price of the speakers on the cable... No offense, just saying...

Thank you everyone for the great advice, I am went with bi-wiringi herd them at the audio store sounded great plus monitor audio also recomended me to bi-wire them.

I got some hooks so i am saved money on the cables that i bought. I will definitly get the chord chrison, clarity caps will do next year when the warranry is up :). I also bought the detox cd monitor audio has now for sale to run in your speakers ity works very good.

Cables i went with Ultalink EXCELSIOR 2.4© MkIIBI-WIRE SPEAKER CABLE. I got some inside information on these cables so i went with them. My wife has clients that work for sony and some other company and the guys specialized in speaker cables so for the money i wanted to spend ($400 to $500) they recomeneded them i got them at cost. XLO and Ultralink are the same company you get the same quality so i was told.

Thank you again.

Hi Trevor,

Another question lol, i am getting my RSW12 at the end of the month and i have been reading people having problems with the settings. What would be the proper settings for the RSW12?

I am going now with QED reference subwoofer cable instead of the chord chrimson got great reveiws. this might be a dumb question i see pictures of the back of the RSW12 and there are 4 oulets for the cables. In pictures of speaker cables i only see single connectors at both ends not multiple ones.

Is it worth it to get the GSW12 insted of the rsw12 if its possible to work with the RS8?

You have been great help

Setting it up is straight forward, The cable is plugged into the sub out on the AV amp to the line in Right on the RSW12.
I set my frequency response to give a bit of a overlap with the RS8's @ around 80hz and I set the volume so as it gives a natural weight to the music.

I run by Sub off a BT MS125 mains conditioning unit which gives a big improvement to bass detail, giving added texture to it.

Sounds like a great offer off MA to let you buy at cost!
Was worth the phone call.

HI everyone,

Thanks for the advice but i have changed my mind on the GSW12. I will be going with either SVS PB13 ULTRA or Mark Seaton Submersive.

Both of these 2 subs are slightly better than JL Audios F113 and Velodnes DD18 and DD15, w will be going to here the seaton subwoofer very soon at this guys house who is letting me adution them. If you look on the web there are so many links referencing them, with graphs and stats.

When i went to 2 high end audio stores and said i needed a sub and requested the GSW12 they shot it down do to my room size and shape they showed me F113 and the DD18 which blew the GSW12 away when i her all 3 wow what a huge diference.

Everyone should check them out unless you know about those 2 subs already lol I am a newbie after all thanks again

If you need some links to the 2 subs that i decided on let me know

Hi,

Trevor, just a few questions...

Instead of Claritycap could it be say Jantzen Superior Z-Cap 800-1200 VDC 2% 3.9 uF and 6.8 uF? It's only a matter of availability in our region.

How do you estimate difference between standard 4 / 6 uF and 3.9/6.8 uF capacitors - is any significant change in crossover frequency separation heared?

And the last...Have you experimented with coils, not only with capacitors?

Thanks in advance.

I've only just seen this jaxwired. No offence taken. I think a subwoofer cable is going to have far less influence on the sound than a speaker cable to your main speakers. I doubt that many would notice the difference between a £30 sub cable and £100 one, whereas changing to a decent speaker cable for your stereo speakers is obvious to hear.
