I am in need of a replacement stylus for my old Pro ject Debut turntable and confess to being totally confused about which product I need. Any help from you lovely people is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Gerry

Ortofon OMB 5E - Sorry, should have added to my original question.
in that case the 5e replacement stylus will do or, depending on your budget, you can upgrade to the OM 10 stylus and so on

Thank you. I think an upgrade to the Ortofon Stylus 10 is due. Thank you again for your reply, I am grateful.

I have an older Pro-ject Debut turntable that requires a new stylus, however I must admit that I am completely unsure as to which device I should purchase. We are really grateful for any assistance that you kind individuals may provide. dordle

What cartridge is currently fitted to your turntable? It should be labelled somewhere.
Is it an Ortofon 2M Red?
Have you owned the turntable from new or is it possible someone could have switched the cartridge? Really need to know what it is before we can really advise.
If it is you can upgrade by fitting the stylus for a 2M Blue if the stylus itself is all that is needed band not the cartridge as a whole.
However if it is really old then an Ortofon OM5E was fitted so any of the OM stylii would fit.
like this one...

Wow nobody has a Debut Carbon?
I spend the afternoon in their living and the preamp is a Cambridge 551p.

They have two used cartridge but quite old with no real interest :
OM5 s pro
OM10

The OM10 cartridge appears to be significantly quieter and less prone to surface noise than the OM5 (tricky to grab it with my 2.5 and 5 yo nephews).

Would you have swapped the OM5 for an AT-VM95ML?

More than the price; the AT-VM95SH is maybe overkill on a debut carbon with its shibata sting. The thin line of the 95ML will be far enough good to them.

Do you think I will face difficulties on heigh ? VTA can’t be tuned on the debut carbon.

The cartridge swap you mention is a definite yes......

How happy are you with such upgrade?
I am planing to offer a new cartridge to my sister (Debut Carbon + quite old OM5 + Project basic preamp + Fosi amp + Eltax speakers).
I am questioning about offering her : https://www.thakker.eu/en/needles/ortofon-stylus-20-for-super-om-20-genuine-stylus/a-5910/

I would like avoiding tuning the cartridge. Just a plug and play swap.

Not sure who you are asking as the OP hasn't been seen since 2021......
The second guy that asked hasn't been seen since his original post in 2023.....

I am addressing all users of the fairly common Debut Carbon turntable. My question primarily concerns changing the cartridge due to the inability to adjust the VTA on this tonearm. Does the Audio-Technica cartridge have the same height as the Ortofon cartridge?
