maxflinn: ive adjusted the spikes to compensate though, but they loosen as the sub moves, meaning frequent readjusting of the spikes..

One other thing Max: did you screw the spikes in using the rubber feet (i.e. the spikes just protrude slightly below the base of the feet). I think this makes things slightly more stable (though you may have done this anyway)...

i didnt think you could do that strapped, because i thought there would be no way of tightening the locking nuts if the rubber feet were on, is that how you have yours setup?

Yes, I pushed the spikes through the holes in the rubber feet, then simply turned the riubber feet by hand to tighten the spikes. Not sure this is the textbook way to do it, but it took less than a minute to screw all four in tightly (and it looks a lot neater than having four long spikes protruding from the base of the sub).

just by tuning the notch adjustemrents pete, there's now less boom and more clean bass..

even when watching the plane crash in fotp the sub doesn't move, i think i had it outputting too much bass before

sorry pete im half asleep here..

i didnt audition the rx6's, i had br5's at the time and my dealer agreed to take them back and allow me to pay the difference.. i liked the br5 sound so figured id like the rx6 sound too, and wanted to step up a level.. not the most studious of approaches but hey..

im not very experienced with hifi or home cinema but fwiw i think the rx6's are great with both, they are very detailed with plenty of bass, id be sure the room can accomodate them though, they may be a bit overpowering in a small room imo, probably not much of an issue with movies (maybe a good thing) but for stereo music i think they need space..

To be honest, my system is used mainly for tv viewing, followed by xbox and blu rays, then music occasionally......(despite owning a very capable cd player..

)

I prefer watching music in concerts these days, then just sitting there listening to music.

Saying all that, what would you suggest is a small room? Mine is 14'x12', which by modern standards (house under 10 years old), is a sizeable lounge......Monitor Audio RX6 wise, is that big enough not to cause problems?

pete i havn't a clue, id only be guessing really, as we know all rooms acoustics are different, mine is 4.5 metres by 4.5, and my rx6's sound great in it, im not suggesting that rx6's need any more space than the next floorstander, its just more of a personal observation that sometimes, in my room, and with stereo music they can seem a bit overpowering to me, im actually considering getting some standmounts instead to be honest, as i feel they may be an easier listen in my room..

Have you solved the wandering sub yet Max?
emotion-1.gif

I've never noticed this problem, which does make me wonder if, as suggested, there may be a slope to your floor! Blu-Tac will be as good a solution as any I think!

hi jim, long time no see
emotion-11.gif
..

yep ive sorted the wandering sub, and it wasn't caused by a "slope in my room", im a brick paver guys, i think id kinda notice if my lounge floor was lopsided
emotion-5.gif
..

no, the subs itchy feet were caused by a combination of slightly uneven tiles, the spikes not being tightened properly
emotion-10.gif
, and settings that were way too high, all is now well though, ill get some blu-tac anyways just to make sure though..

the bass from the sub is great jim, im very happy with it, very clean and powerful..im picking up a new stereo amp tmw and it just happens to have a sub output (yamaha AS-500) so hopefully ill get the benefit of good bass with stereo music too

my rx6's and rx centre are walnut pete, they're being taken back by the dealer who will sell them on as 2nd hand.. i want to put my tv back in the corner of my lounge, i couldnt do that with the rx6's, but with the dynaudio standmounts either side i should have a more compact setup.. and ill have my lounge back

and hopefully, lovely stereo sound

Don't forgot that by the time you factor in speaker stands you probably won't have gained much space, if any...

If you're looking at the Dynaudio product of the year Max, great, in principal; but don't forget you need these to integrate sonically with your centre channel, at the very least... Not sure a pick-and-mix approach is the way to go with multichannel audio.

thats true dave, but im thinking more in terms of being able to put the dm dyns there without boom, the rx6's can go close enough to the walls, but the dyns should be able to go closer..

i heard some dynaudio floorstanders a few weeks back and they were very impressive.. and reviews of their standmounts are excellent..its something fresh and hopefully enjoyable..and more compact/tidy..

the rx centre is boxed up in my car strapped, its being sacrificed along with my rx6's tmw
