Did you have any technical issues with your Hegel kit?

Not exactly, the amp is beautiful but I did have occasional drop out on usb
I thought it down to the rear connection.
I also.lost dealer support as you are well aware.

Hegel.are good guys though they looked after me.

No drop outs at all

Same cheap laptop
Only thing changed is the usb cable they provided so either was the cable or the Hegel.

Same cheap laptop Only thing changed is the usb cable they provided so either was the cable or the Hegel.

couldn’t you use a fixed connection with the Hegel for the internet ? Because I find if I use wireless on the Yamaha wxc50 I get some dropouts but connecting the Yamaha wxc50 with a cable I get no dropouts and the extra bandwidth is better for hi res music

I was not an internet connection but a wired usb between pc and dac

I have been looking to obtain a Dac/amp for approx £2000. The Hegel interests me from all reviews as to H160, H360, Rost, but the H90 (which is in my price bracket) obtained a double edged sword review in Hi Fi Choice in that had a very good sound from all connections but its DAC was its weakest link in comparison to other amp/Dac components in the test (Nad & Densen were better). In comparison the Moon 240i (amp/Dac) seems a very good alternative where on paper its DAC seems to produce a more three sided sound then the Hegel H90 Dac, however its slight negative part is its output 50watt. In theory I wanted to drive ATC SCM19 speakers and in this respect the Hegel H90 would do a better job because of its power output and damping factor in comparison to Moons 240i output. I guess I will have to audition the both - a lot of travelling!

He then bypassed the built in DAC and fed the signal though the standalone DAC and it was noticeably better. Much costlier too, and he wasn’t hiding anything.

I would not buy an amp because of a built in DAC.

It's a nice thing to have and can add convenience but cheap and very good Dac's out there aplenty.
