Don't doubt that for a minute. But the powers that be would have me living under a bridge if I spent that kind of money on a dac :)

Small steps, I actually like upgrading gear. It's all part of a journey and listening to many different brands makes me discover a lot about what I like.

Ok thinking about everything I've said regarding Hegel sound and the more expensive dac/pre amp

The sound I originally described goes for the Hegel amps and I don't want to mislead you regards the cheaper DACs

I suspect the hd12 to be similar to sound like what was in the Hegel h160/h360

Very good but not a benchmark in quality

Now the hd30 is special

I was thinking it could be the end game for you to run power amps or an high end active set up some day.

I've never heard the hd12 though it's just a feeling.
For the cost you can't go wrong.

? Just say it Good or bad

Got my knickers in a twist and thought we were talking about Hegel amps, hence redaction...

Your knickers untwisted I was also talking about amps, originally But it changed to dacs

I was just going to point out that Hegel amplifiers, with all that ability they have for stopping LF driver excursions on a proverbial 6 pence, might sound a bit thin for some folk. Especially in combination with a sealed cabinet for example where the air mass adds mechanical damping to the amp’s electrical damping. Just a thought, although I must admit to having no first hand experience in this theoretical system setup... *pardon*

If that was the case, combining Hegel with Amphion speakers - really nice pairing that is well detailed but inoffensive sounding.

I suppose it all comes down to the specific combination and what the end user wants from it.

In theory with certain hifi terms conjures images
I understand

But in reality I've found it far from the reality as my sealed atc's were amazing in this regard.

Of course you have never experienced any such issues with the Hegel sound signature. Your audio reproduction preference tend towards an accurate, controlled, dynamic and analytical presentation. Your inventory of past, present, future and dream hifi acquisitions reads like a home recording studio shopping list. ATC, Benchmark, Hegel etc. etc. The catalogue is clearly defined and it is patently obvious that you know what sound you like and know what equipment is going to give it to you.

Plenty of hifi enthusiasts would find your idea of audio nirvana a difficult listen, as you would probably consider sound their’s bloated and overly warm. All I am saying is that control and attack, which I (think) know you like is not everybody’s cup of tea, and that for technical reasons Hegel amps will lean towards such a sound signature.
