Oh, and re the comments about Bridge on the River Kwai, the new Collector's Edition Blu-ray looks (and sounds) sensational.

To those already mentioned, i'd add:

Raiders of the Lost Ark (tenuous, but there's Nazis)

Casablanca (ditto)

And for a total change of pace, Inglorious Basterds

Kelly's Heroes is a laugh, although I don't strictly call it a war film - it's a heist movie set during the war.

Others we've missed:

Carve Her Name With Pride, Reach For The Sky, Angels 19, Memphis Belle, Hope And Glory....

Russell Crowe declares war on the English accent? Ridley Scott loses battle to entertain audience?

Nope: prefer this one

Robin%20Hood%20poster.jpg

, though neither is really a war movie, and this one

robin_hood_disney.jpg

is better than the Russell Crowe attempt.

Much prefer this one.

I have watched it about 4-5 times now and listening to it on 24db master audio with arrows firing everywhere it sounds amazing, picture is great, granted the plot is not great but i really enjoyed it, music is good on it, not a heavy film and a pleasant to watch.

That's jolly quiet, but I agree - it's some of Cary Elwes's best work.

Robin Hood: As my first order of business, I would like to appoint a new Sheriff... my friend Ahchoo.

Crowd: A black sheriff?

Ahchoo: And why not? It worked in Blazing Saddles.

Best change that too -24db, that is loud enough surely?

No, 24dB is just about the ambient sound level in a very quiet room. Much quieter and you'll be able to hear the blood running around your body, which is deeply disconcerting.

plastic penguin:This evening I am mostly watching "Eye Of The Needle". It's quite good as Donald Sutherland tries to leak information back to the Germans about the Normandy Landings, whilst masquerading as a British Intelligence Officer.

Nice one PP, funnily enough I was trying to remember the name of this film last week, think I'll pop it on my LoveFilm list.
