Finally my long standing wish is coming true, will definitely subscribe it whatever the cost is, much easier for reading less painful to get latest copy at shop.

Few suggestions firstly as mentioned by earlier poster the mag should fit the screen, secondly I would prefer to have a soft copy in downloadable pdf format so I can read it when I don't have internet connection.

Can I just ask a follow-up, clarifying question re the zooming issue?

On my machine, the zoom clears to perfectly clear after a couple of seconds' wait - are you saying that the text looks fuzzy on zoom even after the page has rendered?

On either 75% or 50% zoom some text is barely legible, and that is after it clears after a few seconds. It does this on full screen or normal view, single or double page zoom and looks exactly the same if I open your link via Firefox or IE. Usuall browser is Firefox and is fully updated. I am using windows 7 ultimate 64 and gfx card is an Nvidia 8800GTX if that helps, pc and drivers are fully updated.

I have taken some screen shots (print screen) and pasted this into paint, I have a few examples saved as jpeg's that I can send you although I can't seem to find your e-mail. If you let me know a contact e-mail I will send you the images.

the text almost lookslike micr text. as viewed on a few PCs using windows7 and XP but always with FF likewise can do screen images.

Excellent - top email address of the two here, please, for my attention, would be great.

Thanks to all for the superb feedback so far - all very welcome!

Hi Clare,

Thanks for your swift reply. Each time I e-mail haymarket they forward on another copy. The issue I think is the posting service. I live in Ireland and my wife has seen the mag been delivered through the postbox as late as 8-9 o'clock on a Saturday night!!

Then I'll get a second copy because when I email - the fact I didn't recieve the magazine it arrives up to 2 weeks later then I get the replacement copy (how honest am I?). It's a great magazine and if I was sure of guaranteed delivery i'd subscribe again next year.

I flew into Bristol last year for the sound and vision show and it was excellent. This year I'll be doing the same and I'll be representing our local community radio station www.nearfm.ie .

I hope the post issue can be sorted. Looking forward to seeing you next week at the show...

Sounds like an issue you have to take up with your local postal service, to be honest. All the subscription copies get posted at the same time - after that it's literally in the hands of the posties...

I quite like this digital edition, although admitedly I probably wouldnt go for it myself. I like the one click zoom in and out, very easy to use. Quality of the pages is good too. I would like to be able to scroll down the page when its zoomed in though, rather than have to drag with mouse.

So you are going to post the what hi fi magazine for people to read on here, at what cost?

Thanks

Sigh... please read the WHOLE thread gel; no decisions made on either delivery method or pricing yet. This is just a trial by one of our sister magazines, which we may/may not follow - hence need for feedback.

It was fine to read, if you missed one months edition for what ever reason and you wanted to get it, then I presume it would be very esay to get hold of one with this system.

So it's thumbs up from me.

Andrew Everard:As far as I know, proprietary software could well be the only way we can ensure that only those who have subscribed are able to read it. After all, we don't want to just give the whole magazine away for free.

Hi,

Username and password could be used to identify those who have subscribed and those who haven't - opening up all areas of the site (including an online version of the magazine) - or not, depending on 'status'. Pricing can be adjusted to reflect paper delivery and e-copy or just e-copy.

U2 have used a similar a system for years. No idea how complicated it is to set up and maintain though....

Discussing content in the current magazine on the forum should also be restricted - I can often find out results of tests through the forum as people freely speak of results. Some of the time the magazine isn't available in the shops and details are known. In a way, the content is already given out freely as features are put online for any user to view. I believe someone had previously asked - what's the point in buying the mag when so much is already online?

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Just e-mailed the pictures

Does this mean (theoretically, i know) that we wouldnt have archived reviews on the main site?

Anyway, it wasnt for me. I'd rather just have a site that handles in the traditional way like...um...this web site, et al.

To be fair though, i think id prefer to just get the print version and read what i want when i want in the traditional way. i realise you're not talking about stopping the print mag, and im probably not the kind of person you're aiming it at. ill shut up now.

Now, about touching your customers...

Sorry. I really am. Its late.

No plans to change existing availability of reviews here, no. The digital edition is merely exploring additional ways of delivering the main magazine content.
