Digital edition of What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision is here!

1 - is it like the digital magazine example that we could play with on the forum about a year ago? The one where we could turn pages and zoom in?

2 - how will I read it on the toilet?

3 - will it be identical to the magazine's content? Or will there be extras?

Thanks.

WoW, this is great news!

I'll be definately one of the first to get the digital copy.

With the ipad and all and with such great savings compared to buying the hard copy

-it costs about 7 quid an issue here!-

it's a great initiative.

Would you be able to read the mag on your ipad when not connected to wifi?? So to save it to the ipads hard disk??

I believe Zinio gives you the option of downloading titles.

We're still assessing the VAT situation - but even at £3.60 (worse case scenario) you'd be saving almost £1 on the printed mag - and save yet more if you subscribe, obviously.

And the hybrid subscription would be something we offer, rather than Zinio; we have the ability to sell the digital editions ourselves, as well as via Zinio.

As I said, more to come re the details as we get closer to launch.

Haven't read all of this thread yet, but my annual subscription for Stereophile via Zinio is around £12. Different tax regime being a US title, but my annual subscription for the printed WHFS&V is currently around £28 (1997 subscriber), so am assuming the digital edition would be somewhat less?

Yes, but then a print subscription to Stereophile is only $14.97, saving 82% on the cover price! US magazines tend to work on a rather diferent model to those in the UK, the States having more of a subscription culture – not least due to the sheer size of the place.

As Clare has already said, the plan is for the single issue price to be £2.99, but I'm not sure whether the subscription pricing has been finalised yet.

Hi,

Just to go back up the thread a bit to the problems with distributors (possibly) - my (usually reliable) local Tesco Metro (Dunblane) doesn't have any copies in as yet. I went to Alloa where there's a superstore and they had several copies - but they were on a 'Tesco Exclusive' £3.50 and not the £4.99 usual cover price.

I'd use a scratch card like system inside the paper magazine so that paper copy purchasers can download the e-mag - would be easier to store. Even a nominal fee (£1.50 - £2) for the privilege - presuming there is already a digital copy of the magazine available that would be sent for printing that could be made available for download at minimal cost?

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

If you've just subbed again (gave into temptation after being banned by the wife 😉), will you be able to convert or will it be a case of cancelling the DD and starting over? Aware details are being sorted in digi subs, just wondering! Is it tablet only? Being made to wait an excruciating 6 months for an iPad 2 (birthday), and would like to use my IP4.

I am having a meeting with our subscriptions team on Monday to discuss matters digital - will know more after that re all the options available.

Thanks for the feedback re your local Tesco - I will let our circ team know on Monday.

And the Tesco deal is at all stores this month; money off this month's mag, plus a coupon inside for money off the next issue at Tesco too. Bargain!

Oh No! Not Zinio.

I subscribed to Stereophile here in the US and found Zinio to be horrible as a platform.

Did you guys actually try reading a magazine in the Zinio format before signing up with those folks?

I would have loved to subscribe, but not with Zinio. :-(

Yep, so do I. Had a lovely weekend reading US women's mags (typically a cut above their UK equivalent) on my iPad - including being able to click on any of the internet links within those issues (I love that about digital mags - offline and online world can interact so much more effectively).

We're not saying Zinio will be the only digital platform we explore - but for now, it's the best offering for our needs. Our sister magazines who've already moved onto Zinio are having enornous success with it, and I hope we follow suit...

If you've tried Zinio in the past and not liked it, it's definitely worth giving it another go. I too used to be a sceptic, but there've been a lot of improvements recently, which added to the flexbility (eg ability to buy direct from us, or via a Zinio account, or via iTunes) makes it a great option.

ok. I'll give it another shot. The old version was a disappointment on the PC.

I guess my biggest issue was that once you zoomed in (to make the text bigger), you couldn't move around in the page (ala pdf/adobe reader). You couldn't sort of grab hold of the page and move it around on the screen. Extremely annoying.

Oh, and I can't use my scroll buttons on the mouse. (probably because it's a web app).

Maybe the experience is better on a iPad.

On the tablet, is it possible for you to move around in the page once you've zoomed in?

Will there still be the great subscription offers like the N sight touch remote (takes a while to come though mid May!!)

I would seriously consider the ipad version and my wife would love less mags sprawled about the house!!

Ah, I guess they're chosen the iPad as their target platform.

Any plans to get it to the Kindle? (I know, it's all black and white, but still).
