Spent a great afternoon with David as Frank Harvey's today......Thanks for your patience and professionalism today, David.....[Y]
Took the wife and good home cinema enthusiast friend...
Using the Marantz CD6003 and Denon AVR 1911 we demo'd the B&W 684, MA RX6, KEF Q500 and Q700 speakers in 2 channel mode, and here are our findings:
Firstly came the MA RX6's:
Great bass punch for the size of speaker, and with nice clear high frequencies, but something was missing- the bit in the middle! This made the vocals 'hide' behind the extreme frequencies a little too much.
Next came the KEF Q500's:
These were missing the bass extension of the RX6's, but the vocals were shining through the treble detail. In fact the vocal presence and clarity was very impressive indeed. They give out the widest soundstage too, in my opinion....
Next came the B&W 684's:
Put an acoustic guitar and voice through these speakers and they are excellent. The bass extension was similar to the RX6's but the top end could go too far with female vocals. BUT......when the music got more complex, the speakers sounded very 'muddled' in comparsion to the KEF's and MA's.
So far the best pair were the KEF Q500's, but they did lack a touch of bass extension, so we put on the KEF Q700's onto the system....
These speakers are considerably bigger than the Q500's, but they sound amazing!!! Perfect blend of detail, midrange and bass extension, but in a small room the bass 'could' be too much.
And on that basis, I decided that they might be too much for my 14' x 12' lounge.....after all, the slight lack of bass on the Q500's could be helped by using my sub with music. Saying that, they might have a little more bass entension with my equipment and room acoustics at home...
So we then added the Q200c, Q400 sub and 3005 eggs to the Q500's to listen to movies.....
Watching Die hard 4.0, Phil Collins in concert and The Dark Knight these speakers were extremely good......detail, control, and a feeling of being in the middle of the action made this system so good.....
Needless to say........the KEF Q500 and Q200c's are now expected to arrive in the middle of this week, as the colour I wanted were out of stock......
