DAli Lektor 2 is worth extra money over Q Acoustics 2020 or Wharfedale Diamond 121i?

The Dali Lektor 2 (very-very good sound for my taste) in my country is far more expensive  than the Q Acoustics2020i or the Wharfedale Diamond 121.

I wonder if it is worth extra money? , both speakers (Dali and Q Acoustics) has similar sound caracter (this is my information from What hifi forum).I suppose they has similar bass power. I have no posibility to try the Q Acoustics 2020i .

I am looking for a budget bookshelf speaker that is easy to ears, musical and not bass light (like Dali Lektor 1 or the Zensor 1 , both a little bass light for me)

What is your opinion?

If you enjoy the sound from the Lektor 2s so much, I would suggest it is worth going for them. They are superb speakers and, although the Qs share some of the characteristics, I think you might be taking a bit of a risk if you buy the 2020i without hearing them.

Thank you

I think, if the Q Acoustics has the same or similar musical, warmish sound as the Dali has I will no make a great mistake buying the Q Acoustics. The Dali is far more expensive near at double price!

I suppose the Q is not a harsh or bright sounding speaker, I made in past great mistakes buying unlistenable speakers like KEF IQ series and others

In your experience what was the main difference betwen two speakers (lektor 2 and 2020i) ?

Thank you for response Matthewpiano

Hi TIbor

No, the Qs aren't bright or harsh. However, my biggest concern after reading your comments, is that they might not go low enough for you. Their frequency response is quite limited at the bass end compared to the Lektor 2s and whilst they don't sound overly bass light on their own, they don't quite muster up all the depth of the cellos and double basses, or the lowest octaves of the piano.

Excellent speakers, but I do think the Lektor 2s are better.

Hello, I own a pair of Dali Lektor 2 and think the speakers are very good. I wouldn't call them big in the bass department though. They sounds very nice with most musical types and have a lovely mid-range. if you already know you like the Lektor 2's, I would go for these. I've also found they needed more running in than other brands I've owned. Maybe have a look at the Boston Acoustics A26 speakers, which I've never found to sound harsh or fatiguing but have a more pronounced bass and sound more like floorstanders, probably due to the larger bass-mid driver. They time well though.

Thank you for all responses. I think a will buy the Wharfedale Diamond 121 because of stronger bass response. It has similar price like Q Acoustics 2020i.

mathewpiano, hows the new Denon DCD compared to the Roksan? Are they the classic Quad 11's?

To these ears the Denon sounds better than the Roksan - more open and fluid sounding.

The speakers are the original Quad 77-11L model, which I've had for some years. They keep getting pressed into service but are very amplifier dependent. Sounding very nice with the Denon amp/CD combination, and they are absolutely brilliant at describing the tonal characteristics of acoustic instruments.

I would not buy any Wharfedales because of reports of poor finish. Also several users have complained about lack of bass here is one ; "I could hardly hear any bass notes or depth to the sound. In all I was disappointed as my 9.1's completely out shined theses and were half the price. To cut a long story short I bought the Monitor Audio Bronze BX2's as these were phenomenal in quality, build and sound."

Hmmmmm.....I had in past Diamond 9.2 with good finish. I do not read about weak bass (at Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 and 121) in any hifi magazines (What Hifi, Stereophile, Hifi World).

The problem is, that the Lektor 2 is at double price (in my country) like Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 or 121 (they have the same price), so I think the Diamond 10.1 has good finish, and is not far from sound of the Dali Lektor 2

I have the QA 2020i powered by Denon DM38, and they sound beauiful. Great treble and the bass is very punchy. Overall great sound across the spectrum.

The shape of the speakers are quite different than Dali. The 2020i are quite lengthy and binding post at the bottom. You might find it hard to place them in a tough location.

If you look at "your opinion" under the reviews on this site you will find them. Just remember many reviews use very expensive amps. Main problem with the finish seems to be the veneer peeling off.
