Anyway, to cut a long story short, I worked on him a bit over the next few days, and managed to convince him to sell me just a few of what he had for £50.

Talking Heads - Little Creatures

Worth £50 just for that one! :)

Ignore all this talk on the forums that we play things too loud - crank this one up (especially television man)

I love Sailin' Shoes as well.

Having not been familiar with Little Feat, I put that one on earlier. Not sure it's for me, but I'll give it another go sometime.

. . . Infidels!!!! Great 80s Zim. Not an oxymoron, honestly.

I'll give it a chance, let's hope Zim grasp this opportunity with both hands. *smile*

Well, with Sly & Robbie and Mark Knopfler on board too, what could possibly go wrong?

I daren't look. *biggrin*

I think it might go in the 'to be filed, and never played' section.

Some nice records there BBB.

Popped in to the local HMV earlier and they have a number of albums at £9.99 so picked up

Prince - Purple Rain

The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace With God

My brother had them so I have only ever had them on tape.

...and having been a fan since the late 80s, I found a sealed, mint copy of Voivod's 1988 album, Dimension Hatross. I don't expect anyone here to necessarily appreciate that, but it makes me very happy indeed.

The name rings a bell, but I can't say I've heard them. Good news, anyway. *drinks*

Local auction this morning, and bought a lot of 25 or so 12" singles and LPs. A certain amount of sh*t, but a couple of goodies to keep, and few others that might sell on Discogs to get my outlay back. Spent £11.20 in total.

Talking Heads - True Stories

A Guy Called Gerald - Voodoo Ray 12"

Various - House Hits

Black - Wonderful Life

Madonna - Like A Virgin

Various - Hip House

Genesis - Invisible Touch

and some other, even worse stuff. *blum3*

This afternoon I went to a few charity shops and bought 13 albums for 20p each.

10cc - Bloody Tourist

Frank Sinatra - Frankie

Jim Reeves - Best Of

Eagles - Across The Border

Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - Best Of

10cc - Deceptive Bends

Eagles - Desperado

Georgie Fame & The Blue Flames - My Favourite Songs

Various - Rockabilly Dynamite

ELO - Secret Messages

ELO - Face The Music

Frank Sinatra - Nice n Easy

10cc - Sheet Music

Again, not the best collection, but at 20p each, it's hard to say no.

Don't know where I'm going to put them all ;-)

All personal - if I was listing new titles being delivered to the store, I'd be here about twice a day!

Not particularly a deep pockets, but I've had enough of thinking twice about buying an album, and then finding its sold out and I've missed the boat. I don't go out boozing every weekend, I don't smoke, I don't own or run a car, and all my kids are over 18, so I don't have any of the major drains on resources that other people do :)

A few more coming over the next few days...

As I've been unable to get into town for a while, my 'local record dealer' (© Mark E. Smith) kindly brought round my recent orders just now:

Julia Holter – Have You In My Wilderness (Domino)
Cooly G – Playin' Me (Hyperdub)
King Midas Sound – Without You (Hyperdub)
King Midas Sound & Fennesz – Edition 1 (Ninja Tune)
various – Pomegranates (compilation of 60s/70s Iranian funk) (Finder's Keepers)
Roseau – Salt (Ninja Tune) (a replacement for a damaged copy)

Yipee!

From charity shops over the last week:

Talk Talk - Colour Of Spring

Blue Oyster Cult - Agents Of Fortune

Status Quo - 12 Gold Bars 1+1

Slade - Smashes

Stranglers - All Live And All Of The Night

Emerson Lake & Palmer - Trilogy

All were a pound each, though I may well sell one or two of them on.

Got all but Talk Talk as originals. Just where do you manage to find these for that price, I am amazed?

Well, MK has it's faults, and many detractors, but it doesn't just have charity shops, it has charity industrial units, and they don't tend to sell their records at stupid prices. There are a lot of dealers around skimming the cream, but I occasionally do OK. The Talk Talk album was bought in Bedford the other day, the rest today in MK. They have so many records in there, but it's a lot of work trying to sort the crap from the good. I've kind of offered to sort them all out for them, but It would genuinely take 2 to 3 days, and I just haven't got the time. I might try to find time in the Xmas break.

Wished I lived a bit closer to MK then as there's next to ****** all around down here. :)

The Mrs and I picked up 2 albums yesterday:

Adele - 25

Paul Weller - Saturns Pattern

I have listened to both albums twice now. Paul Weller is excellent. Adele not bad at all but I suppose the album has to grow on me.

I have digitised the albums so we can listen to them on our iPod Nanos, either in the car or earphones. I couldn't help myself and ran both recordings through the dynamic range meter. Here are the results (recordings in ALAC, 16/44.1)

Adele scores a DR of 12 for the vinyl and only 5 for the CD. Paul Weller gets a DR of 9 for the vinyl and only 5 for the CD. No wonder our vinly sounds better than the tracks I've heard on the radio. I have uploaded the results here:

http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list?artist=Adele&album=25

http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list?artist=Paul+Weller&album=Saturns+Pattern

I think it's ample proof that in these two cases a different master was used for the LP and the CD. The Paul Weller LP still isn't very good, but a lot better than the CD. No wonder people like LPs and think CDs sound compressed.

Just been round there again, and went through the whole lot, which took well over an hour. Didn't find any cream, but came away with 10 more, and at 50p each this time.

Stranglers - 10

Bangles - All Over The Place

Gary Clail - Human Nature (12")

Gary Clail - Who Pays The Piper (12")

Various - Hard As Hell 3

Jesus Jones - Doubt

and then a few others that I'll sell on.

I like that Talk Talk album, but if you can get hold of their subsequent album, Spirit of Eden, that is astonishing. Apparently it's considered to be the first post-rock album(?). Their last album, Laughing Stock, is also good, although I don't like it quite as much, and Mark Hollis's solo album from 1998 is fine as well, although only available on CD.

Been offline for a while. Bought a few more things from our new shop:
Sigur Rós – Takk. Finally a reissue on vinyl, albeit a pricey one.
Mogwai – Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will
The Necks – Vertigo
