For anyone who might be interested: I've just found out that there's a limited vinyl re-release of Sigur Rós's Takk in its original 2x12" plus etched 10" form. It's flamin' expensive, at £45+, but will probably only shoot up in value. It's being released by Krunk, Sigur Rós's own imprint, so *hopefully* the pressing will be top-notch. Out on 23 August.

A good haul there, for the money. I'd be interested to know how 'Split' sounds as my copy is a bit 'muddy'.

It's actually the only one I've given a spin to so far, and it sounded good to me, but as I don't know the album, I can't compare it to another copy.

Nice haul, Big Bern - how's the condition?

The records are all good, I expect after a spin in the Knosti they'll all play through with barely a crackle. The sleeves have a bit of wear, but nothing major, some are really good.

I could have got The Final Cut, Dark Side and The Wall too, but stupidly put them back. Thinking about it now, they could all have been 1st pressings, but I had limited cash in my pocket, and was massively distracted by the promise of 90s Indie delights by a seller I spoke to last week. As it turned out, I made a bad decision, as the promised delights were a massive let down.

I just meant from a financial point of view - 1st pressings = money = more records I like.

Ah well, don't ask, don't get.

True. There's quite a few copies on Discogs at the moment, all around the £15 mark.

My wife and I heard a part of a Groundhogs album (not sure which one) when we were record shopping in Lisbon, so I took a punt when I saw it. It's not quite what I was expecting, not really Blues, but I quite liked the sound of it, and probably prefer it to out and out Blues.

Ordered a new copy of 'Then Play On' by Fleetwood Mac. That makes me happy as I think it's rather special *yes3*

I don't know that album, but early Fleetwood Mac, like early Pink Floyd, is arguably the best stuff.

There is no doubt it will be on YouTube. For a taster, try 'Without You'. For me, an amazing tune with superb guitar. Nothing flash, just great touch and phrasing. Written by Danny Kirwan, I believe. The album was released at a time that they were making something of a transition from blues to a more 'rocky' sound. 'The green Manalishi' was released shortly afterwards. It's an album I like a lot, so much so that my copy is worn out, hence my joy when I saw it had been re-issued.

I have the first 'Greatest Hits', and I do like it. 'Oh Well' is a stormer of a track, and I'm pretty sure there's a track or two on it from 'Then Play On', but I can't remember off the top of my head if | liked them.

Do they still play any of the early stuff live, or is it a 'Rumours' and 'Tango..' set on the whole?

Just did. It's certainly got a real emotive quality, I like the guitar work, but I struggle to enjoy music when I know the chord changes, and there in lies my problem with the Blues. It's like watching a film when you can predict the ending, you can enjoy it for what it is, but it's never going to excite or surprise you. Sorry.

No need to be sorry, I know what you mean. When 'Then Play On' was released on cd, they messed around with the track listing, and actually dumped 'Without You'. They included 'Oh Well', which is a good tune, but for me didn't sit well. Off the top of my head, the only tune on the Greatest Hits that appears on 'Then Play On' is 'Rattlesnake Shake'.

As to what Fleetwood Mac play live now, I wouldn't have a clue. Lindsay Buckingham is a pretty good guitarist, but he's no Peter Green.

I do urge you to give the album a try, it's by no means just blues.

I saw Danny's name mentioned and just had to comment. Fluent, melodic guitarist and a beautiful voice; he's prominent on 'Future Games', 'Bare Trees' and 'Kiln House', lesser-known Fleetwood Mac lps which are well worth hearing. 'Bare Trees' especially if only for his very moving 'Dust', a Rupert Brooke poem that he set to music. A troubled geezer, he was homeless and suffered from alcoholism following his time in Fleetwood Mac and a few solo records...I hope he's better now but details of his life are sketchy. My fave Danny with Fletwood Mac is 'Dragonfly' released as a single...there's a great live TOTP on youtube...he plays beautifully. Danny had an ethereal soul and no mistake. One of my heroes.

Bought a couple of records on the net in the last week:

Jackie Mittoo & The Soul Brothers - Last Train To Skaville

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Live Rust

I'm off work with a bad back at the moment, but managed to get around a few charity/vintage shops today, with just the occasional squeal. Bought 7 records for £2, so not expecting too much, but some of them look really interesting, so I think I did quite well. I'm about to stick one or two of them on, but I'm hoping Jim or someone can throw a little light on them too.

Dave Lee - Jazz Improvisations Of Our Man Crichton

Jazz Hip Trio - Jazz In Relief

Original Soundtrack/Quincy Jones - The Slender Thread

Max Greger - This Is Max Greger

Joe Harriott & John Mayer Double Quintet - Indo-Jazz Fusions

Holst/Karajan/Vienna Philharmonic - The Planets

Bryan Ferry / Roxy Music - Ultimate Collection

If that Joe Harriott LP is anything near original, you've got the bargain of the year as it goes for a lot. It's British abstract jazz, he's really highly rated. I've only heard snatches but would like to hear more.

I've just been wizzing through Discogs, and it does seem I have done very well indeed. *biggrin* *biggrin* *biggrin*

I'm just playing the Harriott / Mayer record now, and it sounds awesome. It is a reissue though. http://www.discogs.com/Joe-Harriott-And-John-Mayer-Double-Quintet-Indo-Jazz-Fusions/release/2324484
