I was considering going down to Audio T in Manchester as there is a Diverse Vinyl roadshow there today, but I woke up this morning and just couldn't dredge up the necessary enthusiasm to actually make the effort. My wallet is probably sighing with relief

Im with you on that DIB - I am very careful about what NEW vinyl I buy now after wasting my money on both of the Oasis reissues.

Got Led Zep IV reissue pre-ordered from Fopp, Nottingham (only because my copy is soo bassy, it unlistenable)

Anybody got the new Stevie Nicks - 24 karat ??

Based purely on a friends advice (and possibly the review in another hifi publication) I went ahead and ordered the double album of Patricia Barber's 'Modern Cool' recently released on Premonition Records.

I don't have any of her work in my collection yet so this could just be a start.

Patricia Barber albums are very well recorded and mastered and Modern Cool is meant to excellent not my most favourite of her albums but its good, I prefer Cafe Blue also on Premonition.

I've won a couple of eBay auctions, and my fingers are crossed.

I too have won some ebays auctions this week -

John Martyn - Solid Air (£13.00)

Southside Jonny - Jukes and Hearts of Stone (£2.99 each)

The Alan Parsons Project - Pyramid (£1.99)

Godley & Creme - Goodbye Blue Sky (£1.99)

and finally

The Kinks - Lola (£4.50). This is an odd one, I can't find anything substantial about it. Its on Hallmark Records, 1971. Discogs has it listed, Amazon has a number of resellers listing it (from around £45+ upwards!) A google search brings up very little. Am sure it'll be good though! :)

Hallmark are a budget label and put collections together of a few well known tracks, maybe some live versions, and some more obscure tracks, b sides etc. I also have a similar Kinks collection, but I certainly wouldn't pay more than a pound for one, as they'll never be worth much, and they're not usually very good. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Thanks BBB! Bubble not burst, I was just curious about it as I couldn't find much on the internet. I do appreacite your response though! Having done a bit more research, mainly into the phrase "electronically created stereo" I was pretty much convinced it probably wasn't a great buy!

Hey ho, you live and learn! :)

Not bought but...

Seen on my local shop's website Neil Young has a new album out (Storeytone). Sounds interesting:
'storytone’ features ten brand new compositions recorded live in the studio with a 92-piece orchestra and choir. neil young took a different approach with this record, first recording the songs on his own in a solo-setting, then creating compelling versions of the songs in a new light with an orchestra and big band, resulting in a deeply-personal emotional listening experience throughout the new record' Thought that would be good on vinyl. Noticed only advertising cd on pre-order at the moment. Looked on amazon £105 for the vinyl!!!!! Think I may pass.

Both arrived today, the Neu album looks good, though the sleeve is slightly worse than I was expecting/hoping for. The Congos album will be travelling back to where it came from for a full refund, the seller must be blind.*sad*

Hope you enjoy that Neu! 75. That's the one I don't have, although I have their first two albums on green Brain, plus a couple of albums by La Düsseldorf (the follow-up project). I like that motorik sound, trouble is I find more than two or three tracks listened to in a row gets a bit boring. Anyway, a good find, if the vinyl's in decent nick you definitely haven't over-spent – although it's not an original pressing as it has the full-colour label - sorry to tell you that. Probably late 70s.

You're a bit of an old hippy aren't you, Freddy! The Hawkwind record is a good one imo and I'm partial to Focus. I daren't play 'In Search Of The Lost Chord' these days; it probably sounds too daft for words but quite amusing all the same. 'Timothy Leary's dead. No no no no...he's outside looking in.' Sheer profundity....I love it though., despite myself.

I don't try to over-analyse things when it comes to bands like The Moodies. I just think they're great tunes. Sometimes, it's just good to go with the flow, and The Moodies had that (flow) in abundance, imo. And yes, I'm just an old fart hippy, but I see no shame in that

Got a full refund on The Congos album without having to return it. Saying that, it's not exactly playable, but it'll still get filed.

After a bit of thought, and some more listening, I've just bought THE WYTCHES - ANNABEL DREAM READER, but not just the ordinary vinyl, the very limited edition signed gatefold edition. I have a good feeling about this band, real potential.

It was a compliment, Freddy!

What's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding? Nothing...nothing at all.

I didn't take it otherwise, you're obviously a bit of an old fart yourself *biggrin* (we seem to be the same age - 59)

It does though seem to be a derogatory term hurled at those that are stuck in the past that listen to a certain 'type' of music. And yes, I agree, nothing wrong with peace, love and understanding

I just need more practice *biggrin*

Two 50p purchases this morning.

Grace Jones - Nightclubbing (Little bit marked, but I think it'll be ok once cleaned)

Grace Jones - Island Life (Just for the cover, which is in better condition than the two copies I already own)

I started out to go record shopping but a nasty gust of wind blew my bike all over the place and, old bloke that I am, I turned round and went home! It's only the second time I've ever done that and I'm rather ashamed of myself. Time to learn how to drive perhaps. Nah.
