Tom Waits - Small Change £2.99

Good deal.

And "Nightclubbing" will impress you with it's SQ, I have a couple of Grace Jones albums, and the production is superb.

I quite like Tom Waits, from the few of his I've heard, so I thought it was worth taking a chance.

Regarding Grace Jones, I had that album on cassette back in the day, and was really impressed by the SQ. Great tunes too! Who says vinyl has to be expensive? Some good deals to be had

That's quite an early Tom Waits album, he was pretty jazz at that time, but I don't think you'd like his stuff from the 90s onwards, melody wasn't a priority. Small Change has Tom Traubert's Blues on it, a song that moves me close to tears every time I hear it, and also The Piano Has Been Drinking, which is one of the first tracks I ever heard by Tom. A great album, and at £2.99, a terrific buy.

I'm looking forward to giving it a spin, probably tomorrow. I bought it from an Oxfam shop, in Teignmouth, where I also discovered a rather good record shop, selling a good cross section of albums. I'll be down that way in early October when I'll have more time to scan the racks. Can't wait

Just got back from a few days away. And picked up Rick Waksman - The Gospels for £1:99. Double LP in near mint condition.

I do miss a lot of bargains in charity shops as most put the vinyl on the floor; and now I'm older I'm not able to get down there.

This one though had their own special vinyl shelf. Like a record shop.

Just returned from a local charity shop with 9 records at 50p each.

Betty Wright - Live

Nanci Griffith - Poet In My Window

Nanci Griffith - Late Night Grande Hotel

Police - Regatta De Blanc

Yazoo - You And Me Both

This vinyl lark I can see as getting very expensive! I paid 21 quid for the above (next day recorded delivery included as I've dodgy neighbours, hence I'm taking no chances) I already have various digital versions and own it on the original tape and CD releases. Still I think it's worth it as it's my absolute favourite metal album. I fear this is just the beginning...

Seems like you got yourself a few bargains there. I've since listened to a few of my recent purchases, and it looks like I really need to get myself a record cleaner. Although on the face of it they looked ok, there's a lot of surface noise. Better start saving my pennies...

Get a Knosti Anti-Stat. The Yazoo LP was virtually unplayable, as was the Miles Davis album I brought back from Cornwall, but a spin in the Knosti, followed by a spin in my drill, and they both play without surface noise. You'll be amazed at the difference.

Hiya big fella.

Yeah, you mentioned those before, as have others. I'm actually thinking of pushing the boat out, and getting a Moth RCM. A record dealer I use uses one, quite impressed.

If you can afford it, go for it, but I'd be shocked if it produced better results than my Knosti/Drill combo. Admittedly, it would probably be less labour intensive, and less messy, but you can't beat crackle free playback, no matter how much you spend.

what fluid do you use in your knosti? i have a spin clean which is kinda similar. the replacement cleaner is well spendy for it.

I mix up 5 litres at a time.

4 litres of Distilled or Deionised water

1 litre of Isopropanol Alcohol (99.9% purity)

A capful of Ilfotol wetting agent

It's the drill spin that makes all the difference, no bits are dried on the record as they are all spun off at great speed, so as long as the water isn't filthy dirty, it'll still do a great job.

I filter my fluid with coffee filters, bought very cheaply from a Clas Ohlson shop.

I guess I just like the vacuum feature?

I've just found out that a new second-hand record shop opened last week in a nearby city. Going to try to get down there in the next couple of weeks. It's been years since there was a second-hand shop anywhere near here (apart from Oxfam), so this is exciting.
