Active Speakers vs Active Monitors

My housemate has recently purchased a pair of active mackie speakers as he's a bit of a bedroom producer. The speakers have an excellent sound quality, better than any speaker i have heard before. I have read that these monitors are designed to be produce a flat sound for production purposes.

I was wondering if there are active speakers around the same price range £200 - £400 that have a similar quality but are built like hifi speakers; Designed to listen to music recreationally.
