Well, have fun on the vinyl hiatus, Mitch. I'm sure that you're gonna completely love the '991. Have a play around with the Dither settings. Dither is usually set by the designer of the player and built into the internals of the machine, so to be able to adjust it ourselves is a very unique tool. Personally, I have it on '0' setting, which is to nullify quantisation errors.

You're right, it's a hugely revealing player, not far behind vinyl in it's resolution.

Anyway, enjoy yourself, matey and keep me posted on any deck developments!

As usual, I've got all excited without looking at the fine details first. Mitch, you're a bad boy, I said my budget was a grand! I've just seen the price for the SME IV is £1500. I won't be able to swing that before Christmas. So, i'm back to looking for a go-between, that i'll be happy to have for 6 months, sell on and then get the SME IV.

While doing a bit of searching to find out a bit about my existing arm (Pro-Ject 9. Discontinued, but available at some places for £300. As Ivor said a while ago, it's a pretty darned good arm.) I started looking at the newer models. The 'Evolution Tone Arms Extreme Performance v' looks interesting. It's a modded 10cc arm. Carbon fibre arm and the same bearings as are in the SME V. Costs £770. Anyone heard of it or owned it? I'll put a link below for the site it came from:
