Hi Guys,

A longtime lurker and avid reader of the forums, just wanted some advice, as I'm on the lookout for a new 37inch TV. Have looked at the Freesat built in sets, but to be honest doubt we'd watch any of the channels (though I know I will miss out on BBC/ITV HD). So please discount those. Once Freeview HD comes out, I plan to add this to the setup (so decent HD picture would be good) although my area (Berks) isn't getting coverage til 2011

Main uses:

- Will be SD - via freeview - especially footy, also DVDs and DivX movies.

- Some gaming - I plan to team it up with a PS3 in order to access iplayer/online services and the gaming functionality

- Also, plan to buy a decent surround sound system later in 2010.

- Budget ~£600 (will need 5yr warranty)

Anyways, looking at the current best buys and general advice (from friends), seem to be swayed towards the following:

- Sony KDL37W5500 OR Panasonic TX-37S10 OR TX-37X10. --> The S10 has a great review - would I miss 100hz, as seems to be the norm on most new sets?

Was going to wait for the 37inch supertest, but since I'm not interested in the freesat options, my choices look limited to the above sets?

Many thanks in advance!

if footy is high on your adgenda then 100hz would be helpful , as you also want to use it for gaming , input lag isnt something you want , so the 37x10 looks a good choice for you , no input lag with a plasma , 100hz , ok its only hd ready , but at that size you wont notice much difference , sd will look better on the hd ready screen , again , theres not much in it at that size .

for what you want , id get the x10...

edit....will you be watching tv in a dark or bright envoirement ?? the x10 doesnt have the neo pdp panel of the bigger pannys , and is a little duller for it , fine at night , not great in bright rooms , where id go with the sony...

I recently bought the Panasonic TXL37S10 from Sound and Vision in Bolton. We are very much like yourselves, watch mainly SD, play PS3 games and watch football. We have found the telly to be great for all occasions. Watching DVD's through it is especially good, with very good clean crisp pictures. Telly also come with a free 5yr warranty from Panasonic.

Sorry for the delay, NY and all. Thanks for the responses guys! Much appreciated.

Our lounge is fairly well lit usually, though the TV won't be near the window.

BTW - we'll be sitting about 9ft away from the screen.

I was concerned that I might miss the 100hz on the X10 plasma? I know you can only view 1080p on blu-ray, whereas all HD TV content is 1080i (I think).

The KDL-W5500 seems to have all the features - of both the pannys' - 100hz and full hd.

However, most people I've spoken to (and read on the forums here) prefer the Pannys.

I guess I will check them out in-store!

Any other tips appreciated, if I've missed anything!

Seems a lot of thread for 37inch TVs!

Cheers,

SM
