Hi All

I am in need to a really good TV and have looked at so many reviews and still cannot decide on which one to buy.

I have around £800 to spend, might be able to stretch to £1000.

I would like the usual stuff, smart ready, not too fussed about 3D, LED (not plasma) wfif built in and if possible freeview & freesat HD tuners.

I really like the Samsung F7000 (40in) but this is over £1000 and cannot find any good deals on it.

I also forgot to mention I would like the TV with a good warranty if possible (5 years would be good)

Does anyone else have any suggestions please.

Richer Sounds are still showing the outgoing Panasonic 50ST50, here

http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/panasonic/viera-txp50st50b/pana-txp50st50b

... but oops, you wanted an LED and this is a plasma, though an excellent one for the money, particularly now at this discounted price. Last year I wanted, but ultimately couldn't afford, the 65" version of this.

Richer Sounds are likely to have something good for under £800, I'm not up to speed with LEDs generally, sorry.

Try the Panasonic TX-L42E6B.

2013 model, LED, not 3d, retails for about £799.

Very happy with mine - had it for just over a month and great image.

Why LED and not plasma.

PI just got a new release Samsung plasma 60" for a grand.

Best smart hub I've encountered, Wi Fi, 3d and overall very competent. No Freesat tuner though.

Hi All

Thanks for all the advise so far.

I have narrowed it down to 2 sets which I quite like but cant decide on which one, as one offers a good warranty and the other does not.

The LG 42LM760T - £699.98 (Currys - no warranty)

The Panasonic TXL42ET60B - £799.95 (Richer Sounds - 5 year warranty plus free 3D Blu Ray Player)

I have seen reviews for both TV's and the main differance is the Panasonic has very poor sound quality.

Can some advise if I should be swayed by a warrnty deal or go for the better quality tv set?

Thanks

This one is due:

http://www.1staudiovisual.co.uk/catalog/samsung-ue40es8000-full-p-105577.html

http://www.1staudiovisual.co.uk/catalog/samsung-ue40f7000-full-smart-p-107265.html

This seems to be the best price of the one you like, could try and get John Lewis to price match.

No probs, just give them a call if you get into any problems. I see most people fill out a price match form on their website now. Is this the way you did it:

Do they have a physical shop? If not, John Lewis won't price match.

I think it is Total Digital but they have two websites! So yep, they have a shop.

Ok, Electronic Empire have a physical shop (not Total Digital):

Premier A/V Centre
105-109 Soho Road
Handsworth
Birmingham
West Midlands

out of interest do you have to live within a certain distance from the shop or even if you live over 100 miles away from it can you still get a price match? Ie I can't actually get there to buy an item from the shop so would JL still price match it?

As far as I'm aware, JL only checks if the shop is within 8 miles of a JL store (although they're known to be flexible).

Nope, they changed their policy a couple of years back, it was in the newspaper too. I have done it about 6 times now since.

I didn't understand your post. What policy have they changed?

According to JL website:

http://www.johnlewis.com/inspiration-and-advice/never-knowingly-undersold-policy

What do you mean by 'High Street Competitor'?

High street competitors trade on the same basis as us, with premises on a high street or comparable shopping destination freely open to the public in the UK mainland. They should carry a reasonable range of goods in stock for you to buy and take away, with clearly displayed prices. Their websites need to trade under the same brand and on the same basis as their high street shops.

Outlets which trade on a different basis to us, such as those that operate only on the internet or through mail-order, showrooms attached to internet-only companies, collection points, auction sites, factory outlets, membership clubs, duty-free shops, market stalls or home shopping channels, are not deemed equivalent high street competitors. We also don't match competitors who are in administration or closing down.

What do you mean by 'local area'?

We define our local area as an 8-mile radius from the John Lewis shop. Please ask the Customer Services department in your local John Lewis shop for more details if you're unsure.

A couple of years back our John Lewis would only price match with our local shops like Richer Sounds in Milton Keynes - it had to be local. They then said they would price match with any shop, as long as there was a shop. No need for it to be local.
