Which is better Wolfson Audio DACS or Burr-Brown® Audio DACs

Which is better in a cd player or cd/blueray player?

I had the OPPO blueray player for a bit during the review period but i did not want to buy when it was over. Why because i really lke pioneers elite blue ray players, one has the Wolfson Audio DACS and the new blue ray player has Burr-Brown® Audio DACs.

That is why i need to know which is the better DAC. When more reviews come out on the OPPO i will consider them again it was an amazing player I will also get the price i was offered as well if i change my mind.

Both and neither.

And don't forget Analogue Devices DAC chips either.

I have heard Wolfson DACs in equipment I don't like and equipment that I do.

It is always the finished product we listen to, not the individual components.

It also depends on which particular wolfson or burr-brown DAC chip. There are several of each.

My NAD C545 CDP has a burr-brown and I really love the player. But I agree with chebby, it's the whole package that makes for great sound. Circuit layout, op-amps, power supply, ect...

Plus, let's not forget the impact your audio rack has on your CDP's sound..."ducking to avoid flying tomato barrage"

DAC-schmack. My old Dansette sounded bloody great and it didn't have a DAC stuck inside it!

Joking aside, it's the sum of the parts that counts.

The reason why I am asking is that the pioneer elite models have 2 players with different DACs now.

The BDP-09FD got an ok review on the audio side for cd playing even with the wolfsn dacs. So the new player they changed to BDP-23FD to make improvements on the audio end for listening to cds etc. For movies they got A+ review audio in movies.

I did not now there were different types of each DAC i know they had low end and high end but several wow

I don't know about the Burr-Brown DACs but I do know that some of the Wolfson ones are very very good. Arcam have been using Wolfson for some time now. The implementation of the DAC makes a huge difference but the DAC itself also matters. The latest Wolfson 8741 is a fair bit better than the previous 8740 for example with more detail.

As for the example of those players as usual let your ears decide. Wolfson DACs are not to be sniffed at but if the Burr-Brown player has better capacitors, a better board layout, better mechanical construction or is voiced differently it might sound better, who knows without listening?

These both chips are amongst THE VERY BEST in todays audio gear. The main difference is in how they are used, mainly the PCB board design, capacitors, power supply section, operational amplifiers chips etc. In my auditioning I have settled on a Tube DAC in mono configuration mode. I would definitely recommend to audition any Tube DAC and specifically MB™ DAC -WM1 model made with a VERY GOOD Wolfson WM8741 chips.
