Hi guys,

I need an alternative to my dad's old Marantz 2270 so I can push my ProAc Studio 150 speakers.

I am an experimental electronic music producer and have a small studio with analog and digital gear outputting to powered Genelec and Yamaha speakers, which is fine for listening to any type of music through them as I have loads of compression/parametric EQ/various filter plugins - as saved presets to listen to music just the way I personally like it - so I can "work" the sound into more analogue-ish and warm as I see fit.

Still, I need to play my music through a proper hi-fi system and I love my ProAc 150's.

Please note:

1. I only play digital files, flac and wav, mp3s. No turntable, no cds or any other player.

2. All my music is in a NAS. I play my music with Plex on a Mac Mini M1 server. Also Roon.

3. In the living room where I have my ProAc 150's and Marantz, I have a smart tv so I have Plex open all day long for music and movies.

4. I can play music in my living room with my iphone because I have an old Apple Airport Express attached to my wifi network so I use the Plexamp, Spotify, Roon... apps.

5. I listen mainly to contemporary music, ambient - electroacoustic - electronica - noise - post-rock - sludge - black metal - death metal. No jazz, no old progressive rock, no "vocals" music.

6. I need a slim amplifier in the region €750-1250. Preferably black color and with no screen (but if it has one, not a problem).

7. Was looking at the Rega Elex Mk4? Suitable alternatives?

8. I am in Portugal and UK.

many thanks for your feedback!

Rega Elex should be just fine although do you really need the inbuilt DAC??
Perhaps you look at a straightforward amplifier from the likes of Creek or Musical Fidelity although no idea what these would cost wherever you are.

Maybe I dont need the DAC no... I could get a Elex R (previous to Mk4), seen just now 1 going for £595 from a 100% seller... could be a good deal.

An futuristic OLED, do-it-all full glass with intuitive controls and knobs with accent lighting, Studio Console that can capture, mix, master, monitor and publish audio tracks without having to connect to a PC/DAW or audio interface and has only line inputs for instruments/vocals and outputs to loudspeakers got to be installed in new and existing recording Studios.
That way one could achieve the highest possible audio quality of recorded audio for music listening at home or other venues.
