Ever own a product that just oozes quality? For me it has to be my T+A Pulsar 1240R CDP. The first impression of quality comes from its weight - 10kg! The fit and finish of the casework is exceptional. Once the casework is removed however, the quality continues to shine...

of course, the most important thing is how the player sounds. Luckily for me it sounds stunning in every respect. Also, the fact that i managed to buy this second-hand for only £500 (original cost was £2500) is just the icing on the cake!!!

Sure looks like a top quality CDP and a bargin at that price! Hope it gives you years of beautiful sounding music!

T&A? Great stuff - vastly underrated in the UK, but probably not widely distributed. Fine buy for £500.

I love the T+A stuff, I remember being smitten with an all in on unit ( the K1 I think ) when I first started out in hi-fi.

Build quality is an often overlooked aspect of a product but so important if you are looking for that," pride of purchase" feeling. I was so underwhelmed by my Pioneer CDJ2000, as a product it is top of the class but it feels like a toy. Compared to a well built product such as the Marantz UD9004 which is so glorious in build.

Wondered if you were getting the 9004 in Nick - looks like a fine player on paper, is that borne out in practice?

Spot on there, few if any distributors in the UK at present. Fortunately for me, and a few lucky others, that means T+A products have a very poor resale value in the UK and often go for a song on ebay!

Thanks James, so far its been sublime! With build quality like this i wont expect it to give me any problems any time soon.
I have a pair of 15 year old T+A speakers which are still going strong!

This little beauty, built like a tank....

The Audio Analogue Maestro Settanta that I've just sold would probably come out best if it ran into a London cab.

Very nice machine.

Just a tip, seen as you have the case off it. Replace any fuses the cd player has with Hifi Tuning fuses and use a good quality mains cable. This will bring the cd player to another level of realism. Amazing.

Let the battle commence...

Just a piece of wire...extortionate...can't possibly...rip-off...laws of physics...blah blah blah...

Good idea if you have ears though.

Amazing. I take it you haven't heard the T+A then? The only extra realism it could bring was if it could project holographic images of the musicians and singers into the room

Worry not Joel, i am a believer! I already use after-market mains leads on all my kit. I have a Nordost El Dorado in use for the T+A. Havent heard much about these hi-fi tuning fuses though... only concern i would have is that typically the glass fuses used inside machines like this are "quick-blow" types and as such you would want to replace them with something similar - or am i mistaken?

lol, whilst its true the T+A is a highly capable player, i am always looking for simple ways to improve my setup and as such i am always open to suggestions. Just as long as i dont risk breaking the thing!

We have had the UD9004 since launch and i intend to keep it for a while longer now. We thought about moving it through but everytime we hook it up it just has to stay. Performance is superb , CD replay is on a par with the original SA7 and the bluray pictures are second to none IMO. Stunning, so much so I really need to get one for home!

I take it you haven't heard hifi tuning fuses in a good system then. Or a good Wadia machine

Hifi tuning make slow(T), and fast(F) blow fuses of every rating, so they will have the fuse to suit any piece of equipment.

I replaced the fuse in my Arcam cd player. It was a 160mA(T). If you like the effect of the power cord, think of the fuse as a bottle neck on that power cords live wire. Once you install a hifi tuning fuse, you free the power cord to work at its full potential and therefore the equipment also.

I found adding hifi tuning fuses to the plug and equipment, made an equal or greater improvement than the after market power cord.

Tip of the Day kids: do this after your warranty's up, else you're screwed if anything happens to your gear otherwise.

No, because a good system doesn't need hifi tuning fuses.

No, because a good system doesn't need hifi tuning fuses.

Believe me it does. The better the system, the easier to hear the improvements. A standard fuse isn't made within tight tolerances and uses cheap copper alloy as its fuse wire. Copper oxide doesnt conduct well, so a fuse deteriorates over time.

A hifi tuning fuse uses pure silver as its burn wire. This conducts better than copper and silver oxide is a good conductor also. Simple.
