What turntable for the Leema?

This could be a deciding factor. I asked Inspire if they could fit either a ClearAudio Virtuoso or a Goldring 2500 cart. He replied: "We don't supply CA or GR MM as we find Ortofon and AT cheaper and better quality"

Whether he'll fit one if I supplied it, I'm awaiting a response. If he has no interest in doing so, I'll look elsewhere. Personally I'm not a big fan of Ortofon. Haven't heard AT cart since the 80s, so have no opinion one way or the other.

Then fit a cartridge of your choice, yourself. You've been a fan of vinyl since your teens, so you must have fitted quite a few cartridges by now. (I can't remember how many i've done for myself, friends, family, a colleague or two ... but I've not 'borked' any yet!)

You are right. I used to change carts in the 70s and 80s almost as often as a sock change. Alas, since buying the Pro-ject in 2005 I can count on two fingers the carts I've changed. So I'm a bit 'ring rusty' and hamfisted when it comes to fiddly screws.

One would assume that if you supplied Inspire Audio with a cartridge they would fit it. Although they haven't managed to sell you on that they can supply they should fit yours if only for the sake of goodwill and it's good advertising.

I have one, and it was a happy day when the stylus snapped off when trying to align it for the nth time. The shape makes them difficult, and you have to align using the cantilever. That's no bad thing, but the sound, while more detailed than the concept 2, isn't in the the same league as the considerably less expensive AT 440 mlb.

If you want to try Goldring, I'd go for one of their classics like the 1042. However, given you seem to like a dynamic sound, what about a Dynavector such as the 10x5? It's also high output, so you can use the MM input if your phono stage doesn't have one.

Inspire did some work on my Manticore Mantra including fitting a new arm refitting the G1042 that had been on the old Acos Lustre arm.

Wouldn't mind trying a Nago but read on here the price has been hiked considerably.

I have emailed Insoire back to ask whether they can fit a cart of my choice.

Problem with Dynavector is I have no idea how they sound. Had no experience of them.

Pretty much all of the cartridge manufacturers raised their prices but Nagaokas' was quite a jump...

i would be very interested to know what Inspire's hinged acrylic lid for the Thorens TT looks like. If you get any info or pictures PP please let us know. My interest is because I I dream of a PTPaudio Solid9 with an Audiomods arm, but I want it with a hinged lid. I don't know if it's possible.

It does give them some extra Brownie points, but that only makes the decision harder: Next Saturday, after the dem, if I am blown away by the ClearAudio then I'll have a huge decision to make: Do I go with an established new table like a ClearAudio or go with gut instinct and plump for a table I've hankered over for decades but PERHAPS sacrifice a little sound quality.

Sometimes I hate this hobby.

I believe either choice would give you great sounds whichever way you decide to go. Perhaps if you have been hankering for one for so long it might be an idea to get it as that will always be niggling away at you if you went for Clearaudio.

It's a ****** at times isn't it.

Before you decided to go with Inspire, did you hear some new decks? Or did you just throw all your eggs into one basket?

He said I would need to spend twice the price to get an equivalent table, but as sales person and run my own small business, It's easy to stretch the truth a little.

That's my only doubt.

The work on my Mantra is not a true Inspire upgrade. The history is that my brother-in-law who has a very good and expensive setup purchased one of Inspire's original Eclipse turntables. He had read about them and called Robert over from Chesterfield to Chester so that he could audition the Eclipse at home in his system. He was so impressed he purchased the TT with a Rega 1000 arm (which I now have on the Mantra. The Eclipse now has an AMG tonearm). From then I kept an eye on Inspire and followed their progress. I wasn't 100% happy with the Mantra so was thinking of replacing or upgrading it. In the end I dropped it off with Robert to fit a new arm (Rega 301 now in box doing nothing), reveneer and change from glass platter with felt mat to acrylic platter with acromat. Robert also identified that the Mantra's plinth could do with some extra bracing so that was done too. I've been very pleased with it and my brother-in-law is still very pleased with his Eclipse, which is now a discontinued model.

Over the years several have posted in this forum to say how pleased they are with Inspire's Rega (Quest) upgrades.

if in doubt take the Alpha for a drive up the M1 to Inspire's demo suite. Aside from that advice, I think Inspire's record, and reviews, speak for themselves.
