I have a TD 150, which is to my mind a better turntable than the TD160, which I overhauled by adding new springs, building a new plinth and mounting an audiomods tonearm. The cartridge I have on it is an AT440mlb.

Compared to my Clearaudio Emotion with upgraded arm and Concept 2 cartridge, the TD150 is both detailed and warmer, in fact, it isn't a mile off my LP12 which has the Benz on it. Part of that is the Concept 2, but, even with the Goldring/Nagaoka 2500 on, always felt the Clearaudio was somehow lighter.

I don't know much about Inspire, but I'd imagine the result is more Linn-like than the sometimes analytical Clearaudio.

I have to add how exciting to see this thread is well over 70 comments, and one on cartridges is over 90. Those numbers are normally the realm of "mains cable" debates!

Who says vinyl is a dead format! Plus everything is conducted in a nice gentlemanly manner in this forum sub-section. For me it's a far more mature format with equally mature followers and contributors. *smile*

That along with the lack of a healthy bank balance

You don't know how close you are to the truth. Mrs. P can kill a person with one look.

'Be afraid. Be very afraid'

Please reassure Mrs. P that all my suggested upgrades are based solely on value for money principles and are all suggested "in the best possible taste!".......

.... Exits hastily stage-left

I would guess 13thnote, seeing as he thinks CD is nigh on dead too :)

Yeah, he thinks we're all boring anyway. He doesn't appear to own a turntable so I guess we're safe over here. *biggrin*

I can picture it now. I'll be clutching my new bundle and Mrs. P comes through the front door. The good the Bad and the Ugly theme becomes audible. The cat dives under the sofa with her paws over her ears. Mrs. P stubs a cigarette out on the back of her hand. Voice out of sync with lip movement: "Okay punk. You were told to get that box out of town. This house ain't big enough for the two of you...."

Nurse! Nurse, I need my medication. *biggrin*

If by ironing, you mean sleeping on neatly folded clothes fresh out of the tumble drier, and covering them with hairs, then yes !

Just a quick update: I've made a dem appt at Bartletts in N. London on Saturday 23rd September. I'm going to dem a ClearAauio Concept and a Xperience 2. Did hear the Xperience 2 against the Classic last year, so this'll give a better idea whether I'm going in the right direction.
