I'd like to find a nice Apollo-R or Apollo, still the best CD player I've had, or for Rega to surprise us all and come out with a new Apollo to sit with the Brio Mk. 7.

My amp, speakers and streamers are going nowhere, and if I can't find a good Apollo I will be fine with the Sony, which was a top model in its day and sounds very nice. It also has a super quiet transport and fast track access.

What I really want, and what I am saving for are very different. I am saving for a Marantz 507Z , or a 509X ASAP. Will I then later sell it for twin Macintosh monoblocks and a valve pre-amp sometime later. (still undecided). There is no end to what I want. But I have a grip. It comes down to the space I have in my listening room. If I got a pair Cornwalls, I would have to scale one to gain access to my kitchen. This is where dreams and reality collide. Sorry to bring you all down again.
To calm my anxieties, I have turned my attention to the garden.
All the best,
IAN.

Almost totally happy with what I have, certainly hardware wise. Having recently moved I now have not just more room but also punchy, fruity (!) bass in abundance, probably down to around 30hz in room whereas previously it was slightly on the too much controlled side.

A TT will be next as will be an Ikea Poang chair to use with my headphone station which is not yet set up.

There's one on FB marketplace (around Nottingham) and one on eBay. At least were there last time I looked not more than 2/3 days ago.

I am now pretty happy with my setup, having just got hold of a Rega Elex-R. Waiting for my"new" Marantza SA8005CD to be delivered to see how I feel about it. But still have a Technics SL1300 and possibly a Rega Saturn on my Wishlist.Don't think I will upgrade my Wiim Pro Plus (unless I get tired to finding workarounds to play Apple Music). Also happy with my 3 years old Focal Aria 906 - but I can see myself wanting try something different in future.

I am happy to confirm that you were absolutely right. Love it.

I find you have to push it a bit volume-wise to really shine but luckily for my already declining hearing, not that hard (it seems to really blossom at around 75dB - 2.5m from the speakers).

I actually went in search of SACDs (of course - despite saying I wouldn't six hours ago haha).

There's a disappointingly small number of albums available. Not surprised I hadn't really heard much about them - it seems it did not take off at all as a concept... Still buying Pink Floyd, Nick Drake and Depeche Mode's ones. Have little interest about the others (Police, Dire Straits, Rolling Stones mainly) and the classical ones don't seem great. Oh well, it was always meant to be just a CD player

Prices are also crazy Not as plentiful as CDs, you really need to dig to find what you want.
Try these links below

There's also the usual places like HMV and Amazon.
I tend to look on eBay second hand for a deal, even used ones are priced high.
l prefer to download DSD from NativeDSD much cheaper!

Thanks for that. I will definitely look at NativeDSD as well.

I was looking at Discogs last night and yes, there's loads more albums in SACD than I initially thought - by looking at what's on sale on eBay. Sadly, apart from the crazy prices, they seem all to be in the US or Japan - precious little available in the UK.

Bought DSOTM and Nick Drake "best of" for pretty cheap - £11 for both - but everything else I am interested in is £50/60+. I could buy a first pressing in vinyl for most of these albums at the same price, so no thanks...

I would like to see every recording released on Blu Ray Audio discs, where the sound quality far exceeds any other format, or the files available on streaming platforms. This will never happen, because not enough people want it. There's little chance of any streaming company offering the highest possible sound quality available from master recordings, so we've reach a bit of a dead end when it comes to sound quality. All the DACs and hardware in the shops are more than capable of handling very high quality files, but the software really isn't out there in the amount that would be useful for most listeners. Having every single recording of your favourie artist or group on one disc at true studio quality would be amazing. This site has a decent choice, but it will never be a mainstream format now, much like the SACD and DVD Audio we were promised.

Unfortunately the sound quality of bluray audio discs varies hugely and in no way are many better than the same album I have on SACD disc.
Many will not have the ability to playback either but that's their misfortune.
And I would suggest avoiding the SNVinyl website men by @Jasonovich
