Question Wall mounted speakers?

I keep surveying my living room (5.3 x 3.8m) and getting ever more depressed about buying new speakers. I'd like standmounts but there's no way to place them properly without a radical rearrangement that neither of us want.
Are there any half decent bookshelf speakers I can mount fairly high (and close to) a wall?
Thanks - S

Dali menuet /se,....but I wouldn't wall mount speakers, it's to important to me and other stuff would have to move and make way for my system...that's just the way it is.
Thanks. So is it safe to say you have no personal experience of these speakers? Perhaps you know someone who has them.

Granted, but I have little choice. The best wall mounting brackets can be adjusted to aim speakers downward, so I imagine that would be ok.

You could look at on-wall speakers. They're essentially a bookshelf speakers in a flatter format, albeit a little wider and a little taller. They're designed to be mounted flat to the wall, so better to not be too high for stereo use, but you'll usually experience tailed off bass extension, as they're really designed to be used with a subwoofer (for AV and media walls etc). Some of the more expensive ones may have enough extension to be used without.

Thanks - following your recommendation I looked around and found a couple. The PMC Ci30 looks perfect, but rather expensive; the Monitor Audio Bronze On-Wall 7G is more affordable though a little on the heavy side at 7kg. Worth considering.

Just a thought, forget wall brackets, consider extra wide solid wood shelves.
This will look better in your room and the extra width will allow you to move the speakers away from the wall.

Thanks, nice idea - although my LR isn't tiny it already has (if anything) too much storage cupboards, shelves etc, and neither of us would want to add even more. I've discussed wall mounting with my wife and she agrees it's a better plan.

If you can accommodate a sub then I would recommend the Monitor Audio Radius 90.

Really compact but still great sound. Perfect for wall mounting (but will need a sub).
Thanks but there's already a sub hiding alongside the sofa, connected to our ageing Samsung TV - which we use only for watching DVDs since we don't do TV. I really don't want another sub!

ps Are those Monitor Audios distinctly short on bass? I like adequate bass but since I'm not a metal fan, and am too old for dancing to very loud house music (though I like lots of Deep House), huge amounts of bass are not my thing.

I own a pair of Dali Menuet se speakers..on dedicated speaker stands.
That's interesting; so you recommend them, naturally. They're on my newly assembled list to look into, and though I note your preference for not wall mounting them, stand mounting just isn't (I've decided, regretfully) a realistic proposition in my LR.
I emailed Richer Sounds not long ago about speakers, and was told a couple of guys there (Exeter) have Dali themselves, and rate them highly. I'm in Plymouth next Thursday so I'll *** into RS and chat to them on the subject.

If you don’t really use it then perhaps you can repurpose it if you went down the MA route?

I think this is something you would have to determine for yourself really. Difficult for me to say if the bass would be adequate to your ears.

Whilst I think it would be adequate we are talking about a speaker with a 4” mid-bass driver so there are limitations. Worth a demo though for sure if you can. There is also the benefit of them being half price right now. 😊
