A staggering amount of presumptions being made here. The OP already stated that the kids aren't in the room at the time and often aren't even inside the house. Most people are assuming he has neighbours - how do you know he doesn't live on a farm and have nobody within a few miles?

Maybe simply answering the question rather than judging perceived behaviour would be more helpful to the OP.

In that case the simplest solution would be to switch the amplifier off.

Thanks for all the replies, food for thought, having just read after a couple of days away, turned out to be an amusing topic. By the way when the amp cuts out it's not massively loud, you wouldn't want to sit in front of it for long, but then for music in the garden could do with a bit more power. I'll consider some of the more cost affordable options posted.
