It's worth checking out the fan noise in person.

My G10 had fans that could only be faintly heard with the sound muted and didn't prove distracting at all.

You might be jumping the gun in assuming this isn't the TV for you on that basis alone.

Agree with strapped....This is what I am trying to say in my last thread, dont buy something on some one elses opinion or bad luck, you could be missing out on a cracking set, I am sure that they would have addressed the fans, but some people can be over critical. As advised check one out first preferably the one you order, my set comes in this week but have stated that I want it up and running first, only to save time and messing about at home, and they were very happy with that, and understood where I was coming from, but mine is an older model so wanted to make sure. I am pretty sure the good points will out way the negatives. 8)

Hi guy's. Congrats strapped, hope all goes well for you. I have just replaced my faulty one with the 50vt50 2012 model. The additional £500 is to much for me pay for now. I hope i have taken the correct option... I can;t go through another faulty set.

Fingers crossed all is OK and that this marks the end of a sorry saga...

Nice work sir, that looks like one hell of a TV you have coming your way! :)

Let us know how she looks once you have it all set up?

Hmm, hopefully a phone call is all that's needed to sort that out. If not, it might be time to ask about a refund.

Will do.

There'll be celebration or fury come Thursday afternoon.

Strapped / civillion

you may be right about the fans. Problem I have is I only know once the tv is tested in the room I use. It's deadly quiet.

i could try the VT65 or VT50.....which takes me back to the question (which I guess strapped may be able to answer on Thursday) of is the VT65 £700 better than the GT50?

thats a good chunk of money, enough to replace my other tv..... :?

Assuming the VT65 doesn't have the vertical banding problem (a dangerous assumption and I'm taking nothing for granted), it's worth the extra to me.

Banding issue aside, the VT65 combines reference contrast performance with reference colour (read no luminance cap in Professional picture modes). In this regard the VT65 represents a notable upgrade over the GT50 & VT50, before we consider other improvements such as reduced line bleed, improved 50Hz motion, etc.

You're right, though, I need to test the TV extensively at home before reporting whether there's worthwhile improvement. I may find a new problem and be screaming the house down Thursday afternoon. I'm certainly not popping the champagne yet...

The way I see it, the TV is on a 28 day trial, which beats an in-store demo. If I'm not happy, I'll get a refund, though who knows where I'd go from there.

Congrats (hopefully) and good luck.

Thanks Ben.

Congrats with a caveat's about right I think. Be nice to feel more confident. I felt anxious the moment the sale was completed.

I have a strong feeling that you will be pleased with this one.

I'm keeping any enthusiasm in check.

I normally let others pay the big bucks and discover the problems. Even if the TV performs perfectly out of the box, it'll be several months before I'm fully confident that all is OK. Retiring the GT50 will feel cathartic.

I really don't notice my dse anymore. I did test the water with my wife with the 55VT65, but she was definitely of the opinion that it wasn't needed.

Staying with GT50 for now, but looking forward to your verdict on the VT.

That's good to hear. Does that mean the problem vanished, or you learned to live with it?

Either way, I'm glad you're happier.

It's there, just don't think about it, so I don't notice it.

Still have to be careful with IR, but it goes after running the screen roll for a while.

Mostly, the picture is great though. But, if your feedback on the VT shows it to be a winner, then I may get in touch with JL to see what my options are.

No harm trying.

You lose nothing asking the question, but it's probably sensible to let others test the water first (I would have, given the option).

I had to pay for the BDP seperately, otherwise it would be going back with the GT50 as part of the package deal.

I have managed to change my GT50 for the VT50.. Finaly. They price matched it al £1100... I had bought my gt50 for £1200..They said they could not refund me the £100 as JL just wanted to equal out the balance. I found that strange and put it down do laziness.. Should i act upon this or should i leave it and be happy that i got what i wanted for now.

I'm not sure. Part of me says that you should insist on the refund. After all, if you had gone for a more expensive TV, you would've had to pay the difference, so why not the other way round? Also, you have an option of returning it, & then making a fresh purchase of the VT50, saving you £100. Other part of me says that JL have gone out of their way to keep you happy, and they will undoubtedly lose money on the swap. So maybe I should leave it. In any case, VT50 has always been more expensive than GT50.
