Presumably they're not only stocking the 55".

Richer Sounds only has the 55" listed for sale at present too. I'll call JL shortly, as they advised they'd be able to update me today.

Keep us updated.

Hi Guy's.

Got a call from JL Stratford branch yesterday. They confirmed they Won't be getting the GT60, Why? Well he couldn't answer that for me as he was shocked himself...I declared the set to be stunning. Apparently a few shops across London have put a petition together to get the GT60 in stock as there adamant it could well be there best seller. Let's hope so. I think i'll have to get a full refund on my 50GT50, re buy it at a lesser cost as i don't wish to by from another consumer..!

Will do.

I was told that "new models have been coming in all week," but the employee I spoke to this morning wasn't from the technical department. I'm waiting on a call back.

Richer Sounds is a fantastic retailer and you can buy with confidence. I'm sure other forum members will echo this view.*

Be sure to check that your local RS has VT50 models in stock, if that's the way you decide to go. Richer Sounds will not transfer stock between stores.

Personally, I'd be looking at this year's models, even if that means arranging a refund and buying from elsewhere. Shame that JL is only stocking higher end plasmas this year.

*EDIT: BB beat me to it! I've bought many items from Richer Sounds and they've consistently been fantastic to deal with. Exemplary aftersales service is the mark of a good retailer. In this regard RS is right up there with John Lewis.

Still seems bizarre you can draw on it, given the image retention problems Panasonic have had with their plasmas.

A few reports from the US about vertical banding on the ST60.

I was ready to pull the trigger on a VT65, but this has given me pause. As the GT60 and VT65 use a new panel, this may be isolated to the cheaper range. I really hope so. If this problem occurs across the more expensive sets, I've basically run out of options...

If reviewers still have the 55VT65, could you please run some tests for screen uniformity problems. I can't contemplate spending even more money and ending up in the same situation.

Yeah I saw that. Must be a bit of a nightmare to know what to do. Are you definitely buying with John Lewis? If there were issues can't help but think the cheaper options would be the best route. I personally would hate to spend a lot of money only to find issues.

Not had time to follow TV threads for a few days, what are the details of these problems / any links?

Forgot to ask what size did you settle on?

Hi Gel,

In theory I'm going for 50", though I'm honestly not sure what to do now.

Option 1) Take the risk and by the VT65 in the hope that all will be OK

Option 2) Keep the GT50 and live with the vertical bands

Option 3) Get a refund and live without a TV

Hi Ben,

I read about this over at AV and then found this thread:

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1450484/official-panasonic-tc-pxxst60-series-thread/1920 (pp. 61-66)

As I say, I've seen no reports of problems with the GT60 or VT65. JL are calling me back soon as I was ready to buy at 50VT65 (as long as they price match Direct TVs). I'm honestly not sure what to do now.

At least I'm on safe ground buying from JL, in that I'll be able to get a refund/replacement. What bothers me is that there isn't a TV I can feel confident buying.

WHF team, if you still have the VT65, could you please check for this issue (see p. 61 & p. 66 of the above-linked thread).

I've concluded that if JL will price match I'll explain that I'll hang on until Monday and audition the TV in store.

I have never had an issue with my plasma.

You're lucky, I have to be careful with mine. At a guess I will have to use that image retention tool sometime in the future, hopefully it will clear up any nicely.

At the moment I would take the 55 VT50 at around £1500 because at least it will give you another 30 days, and in that time they will have probably come down a bit more.

Or I suppose the Sony 55 inch.

Thanks Gel,

I don't see a 50 series Panasonic as an option; I simply refuse to go back there.

There are no reports of uniformity problems with the GT60 or VT65 at the moment, only the ST60. As the GT60 and VT65 use a newer panel, they may be free of the vertical banding issue; though I'd be lying if I said I'm not a little worried now.

There are small problems I wouldn't fret about, like a bit of dynamic false contouring, but noticeable stripes across one side of the screen are a more than minor problem in my view.

I may be sweating over nothing. As I say, nobody has reported problems with the VT65 at this stage, at least not to my knowledge. I'm just tired of messing about and constant disappointment.
