I think the reason why Al has felt the need to chip in is that cable threads can be relied upon in two ways:

1) People say the same things, repeatedly, and

2) They become gradually but increasingly polarised/ill-tempered and/or patronising.

USB cables use computer protocols to transmit data (If they didn't they would not be able to communicate with USB equipment, so checks and balances are in place.
You are confusing sp-dif with USB, sp-dif does indeed transmit the digital audio data live, however USB does not.

The article clearly states that "All audio data is transferred over isochronous transfers" and that for isochronous transfers "The data has a CRC as normal, but if the receiving side detects an error there is no resend mechanism.

USBeeist, alas, I have inadvertently knocked back our cause into the bosom of darkness.
The Nayers with their superior numbers are forcing us back into the closet but I say to all USBeeist be brave, be bold, speak out and be counted, you are not one nor a zero, but you are a faithful reproduction of the music.

There may or may not be an audible difference, but 0 an 1s can be altered in USB transmission because USB transmission works in a different mode for Audio, as post #84 explained and post #237 repeated.

Just my take on it, but that feels like it reinforces what I said about being patronising. You could have said 'believe something for which there is no rational basis/no evidence'.

But who cares? As long as people are not being rude to one another, knock yourselves out. If anyone feels that line get crossed please report it - I won't be looking otherwise!
