So, on the old AVI DM5 thread that was locked, Um asked me how the new amp was getting on, so I thought I'd take the time to answer.
Thankfully, my hopes have been realised. The 818 delivered what I'd wanted, build, sound quality and performance can't be faulted for me. It works well with music, better than many would give credit for ("...AV amps don't do music..."). It's a very detailed sound, no character of its own, just what's on the disc, which I rather like. I've had a good few amps now, and this one is as good as any of them.
Given that it offers all the functionality that I need as well as the performance, I'm happy with the 818. Both as a user but also to recommend it as a viable option to anyone looking for a new amp and, like me, uses many sources from which their entertainment is delivered.
